It is a family drama reading because Eyre (the director) focuses on Lears relationship with his daughters

i think it's an retributive context... it's nearly nihilistic, especially the ending, where kent has the body cart with all the dead people in it and he walks into the white light. i think that's supposed to represent the nothingness.
