Seems kinda crazy, but doing Physics, 4 Math, 2 RE and Adv English if you beat just 50% of the people in each course, your ATAR is gonna float near 90.

Sure, you can say that the maths is really boosting that up, and it is, but everyone has a subject they are good at and beating half the people in the rest of their subjects isnt hard. So really, anyone who cares even a little bit should smash the HSC.

Makes me feel better about getting into engineering at Wollongong.

yer man, only thing motivating me is scholarships

beat 40% in each sub and get 87.35 ATAR, with bonus points you can do engineering anywhere

beat 30% in each sub and get 82.5 ATAR

True, however that subject they're good at may only make up 2 of their total 10 units counted, and they maybe not so 'Pro' at their other subjects.

And btw you picked out high scaling subjects for the 'remaining subjects', most people in the HSC don't do such high scaling subjects, so just beating half the cohort isn't going to cut it, sometimes it requires you to beat over 90% of the cohort.
