Hi As I have never played b4 I need help in choosing an amp for a electric guitar how much I should spend. I have a list of amps below, but some might be too expensive (Im thinking about spending under or just on $AUD200):

Would I want high gain & reverb?
Im looking to Play the following genres (as thats what I listen to):
Metal: Heavy, Thrash, Death, Sludge, Grind, Melodic, Black, Gothic, Power
Hard Rock
Rock: Guns N Roses, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc
Classic rock: CCR, Zepplin, Aerosmith, The Eagles, Dire Straits, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, etc
Aussie Rock: Split Enz, Aussie Crawl, Chisel, ACDC, Midnight Oil, Icehouse,Crowded House, INXS, etc
Chick pulling music.
Country (Johnny Cash)
Classical (Along the lines of what Cliff thought Metallica)

I will probably be taking it to places when Im good enough to impress & pull chicks (Any truth to the rumour that chicks dig muso's? Cause from general observation it appears to be correct)

I once had a whole ROOM full of girls and just me singing along to the Green Day song I was playing on an acoustic I had found in a back music room. They loved it.

As for amps, I just started on a 10W Fender. Sounded okay in the shop so I just bought it.

How do I add a poll to the thread? I tried but it didnt work (said it needs to be done within 2mins of creation. If someone, I guess a mod could do it that would be great.)

MOds or whom ever could you put a poll in for me?

man, in that sort of price range its not really going to matter much... go somewhere and play with a few and see what takes your fancy. its a waste if you over-spend now anyway- cause you'll want something bigger/better soon enough. ;)

it may even be an idea to look at one of those chat little guitar/amp packages :)

Isnt it possible to get far better equipment by buying individual gear from the same store at the same time? And have heard very bad things about the package deals. (mostly with the Ashtons & Fenders)

Could be the Ibanez Jumpstart Pack: RX40JS with amp, but the cheapest I have seen it for is $429 at Turramurra Music. Its also not produced as a separate guitar. There is also the AX30 Pack $329 at Muso's Corner

Try Roland cube amps, I haven't been paying attention to this kinda thing for a while, but a few years back they were the shit for a budget price range.

sif marshalls ftw, katie :\ i hate marshalls  so overpriced. some of the tube combos are kind of nice... but the penis extension stacks/half stacks are totally ghey.

If I can get an amp and guitar for $600, so If I can get a guitar for around $380 or so might spend the rest on a better amp (Thus for that scenario would spend $220 on amp). Does this make any difference?

Also how portable are these amps? Could I use one say at a party or mates place?
