Just seeing what software you people think is reasonably good for the different categories.

I saw something like this in one of the IT magazines, just wandering what you people think.

Here's alist of the diff categories, you can say your own if you want.
And you may include version numbers for each app.

Best of (and an example):
-Office Suites (MS Office XP, OpenOffice.org)
-Graphic Programs (Adobe Photoshop 7, PaintShop Pro 8)
-3D Graphic Programs (Houdini, 3D Studio Max, Microstation)
-Animation (Flash, Animation Shop)
-P2P Sharing apps (Kazaa, eMule)
-CD Burning tools (Nero 6)
-Database Apps (FileMaker Pro)
-Firewalls (ZoneAlarm, Sygate)
-AntiVirus (PC-Cillin, Norton)
-FTP (Cute, WS_FTP)
-Web Page Design (Frontpage, Dreamweaver)
-MP3 Player (Winamp, MusicMatch)
-Remote PC apps (VNC, PC Anywhere)
-Program Editors (EditPlus)
-Program Modelling (Visio, Edge Diagrammer)

Dunno if anyone can be bothered reading through and suggesting their opinons on any applications that fit into these categories, or categories of their own, saying why each application is the better one.

btw, the examples in ( ) are just examples.

Dragon Naturally Speaking?
http://www.scansoft.com/naturallyspeaking

I've used it once or twice, but I can't help it but type on the keyboard, instead of having to dictate every command/word, or sentence (and making sure that the corrections are in place, punctuation, etc).

:)

i reckn its kinda waste of time u have to train it n shiet... plus ur comp freezes a bit when it types (or mayb thats just my p3 lol)

normal typing is way cooler

but dragon naturally speaking is the best one out there

What makes it worse is, when you've got a lisp!

To train it takes a while, that is, to have it PERFECTLY in tune with your voice and voice patterns. I think there's always a delay in speech-to-text, because I have never seen somebody "speed read" and have it outputted exactly as he/she has said it.

For example, reading an entire paragraph, EXTREMELY fast and having the computer 'sort' the words in the correct sequence/order in which the words have been said, getting the words right/correct as well, with punctuation and all the rest of it.
