Art-rock trio REGURGITATOR emerged triumphant from their ‘Band in a Bubble’ stint with a brand new album and will be making the most of a world without boundaries at the BIG DAY OUT in 2005. Together since 1994, this band has paved a path of punk pop fury across the nation and the world. With a back catalogue of eps and albums including their impressive debut album Tu Plang and Unit (which eventually achieved triple platinum sales in Australia), the ‘Gurge are set to release a brand new album called Mishmash! that was recorded in 21 days in the Band in A Bubble. Don’t miss REGURGITATOR; Australia’s favourite indie, and electro pop sons as they distort their way around the country with the BIG DAY OUT in 2005. (All events)

The BIG DAY OUT is proud to welcome CARL COX - a man touted as the best DJ in the world. Having been part of the British dance scene since the disco days through to the global club land of the '90s - with temporary pit-stops covering hip-hop, the rare-groove movement and the immense rave revolution of the late '80s – CARL COX is truly a living legend. He was also the first DJ to use 3 decks, attracting the title of "the 3 deck wizard". Cox has just released a compilation on the DMC label, Back to Mine. His live sets are renowned the world over and flaunt fearless experimentation, taking you through perfect transitions, all the peaks and valleys of dance floor rhythms and pure energetic entertainment. CARL COX is sure to deliver one hell of a party at BDO 05. (All events)

SPIDERBAIT have come a long way since developing a solid reputation with local farm dogs and cattle, who always showed up and listened attentively to their shows when they were starting out all those years ago back in Finley. They’ve grown to become one of Australia’s favourite bands with classic albums like The Unfinished Spanish Galleon of Finley Lake, Ivy and the Big Apples and Grand Slam and this year have had massive, #1 chart success with the single Black Betty from their impressive sixth record Tonight Alright. SPIDERBAIT return to the BIG DAY OUT to prove they’re masters of whipping up all the sweat, frenzied energy and wild mayhem that rock n’ roll can conjure.

SLIPKNOT burst forth in 1999 with some of the most awe-inspiring, cathartic rock the world had ever heard. With a mix of grinding, post-Korn alternative metal, some neo-shock rock, and rap-metal, SLIPKNOT are one of the most popular bands of the nu-metal explosion. Theatrical and attention grabbing, the band perform in identical industrial jump suits and homemade Halloween masks, and add to their mysterious anonymity by adopting the numbers zero through eight as stage aliases. Add to that a lyrical preoccupation with darkness and nihilism and SLIPKNOT's blueprint for nu-metal success is set. After two platinum albums, their third offering VOL. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) which not only captures the band's strengths to this point, but sees SLIPKNOT exploding in all directions. Watch them explode at the 2005 BIG DAY OUT (all cities).

DECODER RING are part symphony for the subconscious and part soundtrack to your daydreams. Musically they are hypnotic beats, electronic meanderings, walls of sound and clanging guitars and bass, all mixed up in emotive, psychedelic musical highs and lows. Since their formation in 2001, DECODER RING have moved to the forefront of Australia's experimental electro-rock. Two previous releases Spooky Action At A Distance (EP) and Decoder Ring (LP), won them wide praise from critics and fans. Already filmic in their sound and approach, it was a natural progression for DECODER RING to become involved in writing music for film. They have achieved a huge success in this arena with the soundtrack to Cate Shortland’s award-winning film Somersault. In their first national tour for the BIG DAY OUT, DECODER RING’s live shows promise to be nothing short of spell binding. (All Australian events)

THE JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION takes standard blues and puts them through the blender. The result: tight songs, funky beats and more catchy riffs and hooks than you can fit into the trunk of a seventies car. Taking cues from rock, punk, R&B, garage, hardcore, and hip hop idioms while transcending the limitations of each, Jon Spencer, drummer Russell Simins and guitar ace Judah Bauer tear up a unique sound which they’ve honed and redefined over six records including their classic albums, Orange, Extra Width in 1994; 1996's Now I Got Worry and 1998's Acme. The new effort from the trio Plastic Fang is set to impress once more with lustful imagery and howling vocals. With characteristic, massive guitar sounds, adrenalised songs and resolute intensity THE JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION are one of the best live bands playing today. They join us for 2005 BIG DAY OUT in all cities.

Sydney DJ BEXTA is known and loved Australia-wide for the hard trance, bangin’ beats and energetic vibe created every time she hits the decks. Holding the title of the No 1 female DJ in Australia, BEXTA has moved from straight up Djing to writing and producing her own music. She has graced many a stage around the world including alongside acts such as Bjork, The Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Timo Maas, Carl Cox and John Digweed, at events like Gatecrasher, Slinky and Utopia, as well as earned a place in the top 5 Australian dj's in a recent Australian poll. Performing off the back of her current album Conversations with Ones and Zeroes BEXTA, Australia’s first lady of hard trance will bring her savvy dance floor appeal back to the Boiler Room for the 2005 BIG DAY OUT.

Hailing from Minneapolis, ATMOSPHERE is a hip-hop group featuring rapper, Slug, aka Sean Daley and producer, Ant (Anthony Davis). After playing together in various incarnations (with other members), the pair have settled as a duo and are dedicated to producing hip-hop with freestyling that is clever, complex and anti-gangsta. In 1998, ATMOSPHERE released their debut album, Overcast! on the Rhymesayers label. The album quickly became regarded as an underground hip-hop classic thanks to Slug's deeply personal, poetic musings, as well as Ant's inventive bare-bones production. Since then they've won fans around the world with releases like Sad Clown Bad Dub II, Lucy Ford: The Atmosphere EPs, and God Loves Ugly. In 2003 ATMOSPHERE returned with Seven's Travels (released on legendary punk label Epitaph), a diverse, energetic, passionate and down to earth LP that gets to the heart of true hip-hop. They visit Australia for the first time with the BIG DAY OUT in 05.

They've written some of the most punishing riffs in history, shared stages with everyone from Ozzy to Murphy's Law and now HATEBREED come to you live at the BIG DAY OUT. The standard-bearer for a burgeoning underground hardcore scene, HATEBREED stand for the same kind of solidarity teenage headbangers experienced in early thrash and the sweaty catharsis punks embraced in Black Flag. In 2004 they released The Rise Of Brutality, (their much-anticipated follow-up to last year's acclaimed Perseverance), an album that calls for unity, solidarity and struggle, unleashing walls of punishing guitars, fierce drums and bass lines that rhythmically snake a path through any audience. All this combined with Jamey Jasta's fiery, raw vocals, HATEBREED are a savagely potent band that has mastered a formula that includes the best parts of death metal, thrash-punk and New York City style hardcore. Don't miss their driving anthems that have bubbled up from the underground, live at the BDO.

The BIG DAY OUT is proud to welcome THE HIVES. These Stooges-inspired rockers have been excavating their deepest song recesses to uncover the beast that is their new album Tyrannosaurus Hives. Self-proclaimed heroes of reintroducing rock in the mainstream, THE HIVES gained major notoriety with their second album, Veni Vidi Vicious in 2000 and then became everybody's new favourite band in 2002 with their album Your New Favourite Band. Proving they are a band with roots but a mind of their own, they produce rock that is tenacious and jagged, menacing and havoc wreaking with all the showmanship and musical firepower you can fit into a tailored suit. THE HIVES join the BIG DAY OUT in Auckland, Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne only.

BDO is proud to present two of new Zealand’s biggest hip-hop stars SCRIBE featuring P MONEY. SCRIBE is undoubtedly the brightest star of New Zealand's much-celebrated hip-hop scene. He has already cemented his name in hip-hop’s underground with his raw talent for a rap style that is at once witty, conversational, emotive, and inspiring. His debut album The Crusader was released in both New Zealand and Australia to much acclaim. SCRIBE is the first NZ artist to ever simultaneously hold the #1 spots on the NZ albums and singles chart with Stand Up and The Crusader. The infectious singles Not Many - The Remix! And Stand Up has also broken through in Oz, dominating the Australian airwaves and TV channels alike. P MONEY is New Zealand’s premiere hip-hop DJ and producer. Fresh off the successes of his new album Magic City going gold in NZ, and being named Producer of the Year at the NZ Music Awards, P MONEY is set to join his mate SCRIBE as they serve up the hottest hip hop show around at the 2005 BDO. (All events)

Champions of counter culture, JD Samson, Johanna Fateman and Kathleen Hanna (influential voice in the early '90s feminist punk-rock riot grrrl movement and former member of Bikini Kill) together make up the feminist punk electronic group, LE TIGRE. This band is a hybrid of deliriously addictive sound with a mixture of drum-machine samples, synth hooks, buzzing guitar loops, gang vocals, and foolproof bass-lines. Their major-label debut This Island melds underground aesthetics with a pop sheen. Irresistibly danceable, this album is rife with anthemic tracks and thought-provoking, socially conscious lyrics. Don't miss the unmatched phenomenon of LE TIGRE’s electrifying stage show at the BIG DAY OUT, complete with video accompaniment, choreography, and matching outfits.

The band of rock‘n’ roll demons known as THE D4 began life in the north shore suburbs of Auckland in late 1998. The D4 aka - Dion, Jimmy, Vaughan and Beaver - play mean garage punk rock with nods towards Motorhead and AC/DC and a pinch of Jon Spencer. They make the sort of joyous, grinding noise that others, try as they might, consistently fail to render. From the beginning, their live shows have gained these Kiwi’s a great reputation for fun and vitality. Their gigs have been notable for their explosive potential and it’s consequences. With their guitars and amps always in danger of being reduced to matchsticks in their search for the lost chords of rock’n’roll, THE D4 join the BIG DAY OUT tour nationally.

From the notorious streets of South Auckland come DECEPTIKONZ, New Zealand’s lyrical ambassadors for hip-hop. Comprised of 4 MCs: Savage, Devolo, Alphrisk and the mighty Mareko (crowned 'Best MC in New Zealand' winning the National Battle for Supremacy) DECEPTIKONZ flaunt a unique lyrical style and brilliant production that appeals to both underground and commercial hip-hop fans. Their debut album Elimination saw Mareko pass production duties to a few of NZ's best producers, including P-Money and John Chong-Nee of group AKA Brown. With a solid reputation for energetic performances, unorthodox sense of humour, incredible, tight lyrical flow and a headstrong, unstoppable energy this is word play like you’ve never seen before. DECEPTIKONZ are the final stage of hip-hop’s evolution and they join us on the BIG DAY OUT.

You may not have heard much of them but you will. WOLFMOTHER are a Sydney 3-piece rock 'n' roll outfit that have stormed onto the local scene. Inspired by a long tradition of dirty psychedelic rock, their self-titled debut EP has received massive acclaim locally. Described as psychedelic Sabbath meets the White Stripes meets Led Zeppelin meets Yes, WOLFMOTHER are far more than a throwback band. Their thundering drums, stunning melodies, chugging earthquake guitar riffs and sludgy breakdowns topped off with vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale's shivery hollers, makes for one freaky sound. WOLFMOTHER are set to bring the noise and the nous on their debut at the BIG DAY OUT. (All Australian events)

Take a beat, add some axle grease to keep it running smooth, go with the flow and you get the HILLTOP HOODS. The rumblings of Australian hip-hop are being felt around the globe and it is artists like the guys from Adelaide – MCs SUFFA and PRESSURE along with DJ DEBRIS who are spreading the infectious vibe. A crew that has been kickin’ it since ’92, the HILLTOP HOODS will rock crowds at the BIG DAY OUT with their wicked, energetic, no-nonsense hip-hop. (All Australian events)

BIG DAY OUT cuts and pastes one of the underground electronic scene's favourites into the line-up: KID 606 aka Miguel Depedro aka master of ambient, digital, hardcore, intelligent experimental dance music. Releasing albums on Mike Patton's label 'ipecac', a sampling genius with unique wit and sense of humour, his albums genre hop and move from experimental noise, to beats, to hip hop with albums like Action Packed Mentalist Brings You Fucking Jams (2000) and Down with the Scene (also 2000) which included killer tracks like "Luke Vibert Can Kiss My Indie Punk White Boy Ass". In 2004 KID 606 released Who Still Kill Sound another example of his ear-shattering, mind-blowing blasts of brilliance. KID 606 will unleash his trademark brand of unrelenting, adrenalin fuelled mayhem at the BDO in 05.

Are they a band or 60s ‘happening’? Whichever the case, THE POLYPHONIC SPREE have been thrilling audiences the world over. Describing themselves as ‘symphonic pop’ THE POLYPHONIC SPREE produce their finest magic live-on-stage – with two dozen members (a ten-member choir, a pair of keyboardists, as well as a percussionist, bassist, guitarist, flautist, trumpeter, trombonist, violist, a French horn player, a theremin player, and an electronic effects wizard) are taking to the stage costumed in flowing robes of snowy white…a fitting a accompaniment for their uplifting catchy, gospel-laced pop. Inspiring musical euphoria in the vein of the Flaming Lips and the Beach Boys the POLYPHONIC SPREE’s first album Together We're Heavy features musical moments not of this world. Performing in Auckland and East Coast (Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne) shows only, come join the family and sit at the welcome table with THE POLYPHONIC SPREE at the BIG DAY OUT.

Stay tuned for final BDO acts in around one months time.

Sofay, that's a stupid argument - it's still a year between festivals, no matter where you count from.

I'm a bit dissappointed with this too, but it's still an alirght line-up. Adam and Wil said the Killers were going to play, so I was pretty stoked cos I'm not going to any of their concerts, but then they said they made a mistake. Damnit!

worst.lineup.ever :vcross:

BDO organisers are greedy and know that they are gonna seel the venue out anyway. Theres no incentive for them to bring in good bands anymore.
