If you feel comfortable enough to be wearing a mini, and you are a size 16-18, then good for you. that outfit is not to my personal taste, but hey... who REALLY gives a fuck? Its about time that people stop dictating what others should wear.

People who judge complete strangers on their body shape and how they choose to dress are often insecure about themselves and finding faults in others is a lot easier than addressing the faults in themselves.

You need to get a life if you have nothing better to do than walk down the street preoccupied with whether or not in an Australian summer a larger girl is wearing a skirt too short for your own liking.

Im just as opposed to skinny, flat asian schoolgirls wearing skanky clothes which don't fill out cos you can't tell the front from the back, as i am to vinyl clad goths who wear trenchcoats in public.

In other words, who cares? Heck i bet i dress in a fashion which would make them cry

i find it embarrassing to see someone wearing clothes that are too small for them... i hate wearing really tight clothes cos i hate the feeling that i might be coming out over the top of them or something. but then, thats just me.
if they really want to dress like that, its nothing to do with me.
it isnt about being fat, there are plenty of skinny people who cant dress themselves...

That's a good point. You can't seriously expect large people to cover up during a hot summer and sacrifice their comfort while giving skinny people the liberty to wear as little as they want simply because they are easier on the eye.

No one has the jurisdiction to dictate other people's fashion choices and apart from feeling "repulsed" by someone's appearance, it's not our place to judge them, so why bother wasting your breath bitching about how horrid someone elses' fashion sense is. If it bothers you that much get a job as a fashion consultant so you can put your judgement to constructive use.

i think its your own issue- if you're larger and decide to wear stuff thats two sizes too small and you have overhang and you just generally look bad, thats your thing. thats not to say that sometimes my tight jeans look too tight on me because ive had a chocolate bar too many, but then i wear more slouchy jeans.
if you choose to wear stuff thats that tight or short or flimsy that it shows off your bad points (which we all have) then you'll be criticised by other people, or they might look at you and not like what they see. there are some seriously hot hot hot things out this summer medium/long skirt wise, and kaftans are in- both of those things look awesome, are a bit roomier AND are cool enough to wear around outside.
what also shits me is those skinny girls who buy all their stuff from tempt or supre or whatever and wear skirts i'd consider short enough to be underwear. eeeugh *shudder*it's about the style of clothes you wear, and quality shows.
it's your weight, its your choice how you show it off or cover it up or whatever. just let me say this- a girl of any size wearing clothes that fit, look nice, with style and charm is going to look FREAKING hot. if you're a size 18 and you're wearing nice clothes with an air of confidence, you'll look as good as a size 8 supermodel. its not about your weight or how you look or anything- its about the clothes you choose and the way you present yourself.

RE: skirts and kaftans, it's about finding the right balance between tight and loose. If a large person wears clothes that are too loose and flowy it makes them look even bigger than they are.

very true. you dont want to look like you're walking around in a hessian bag or cling wrap. ya gotta spend a lot of time trying things and so on etc. but people with a little more weight have great features and crap features like everyone does. i hate my thighs but i love my arms and my top half. you work with what you've got :)

Exactly.

We should all concentrate on accentuating our best features. No more negative talk. Please, it hurts others as well as yourself.

Kaftans are cool. But an ill fitting kaftan will look a little bag lady. Same as baggy jeans, not too loose or you'll look swamped.

at the same time, it's bullshit to say 'oh who are you to judge people on what they wear'.

the first impression you get of people is based on the way they dress and present themselves. if something doesn't look good, it's likely to negatively influence your opinion, whether you perceive yourself to be shallow or not.

To the people that are saying they do judge people on what they wear...I'm sure you all would have had fashion issues at some point in your life, noone gets it right 100% of the time, so don't be so quick to judge.

Why do you care so much? It's her own business what to wear, right? Maybe she wants to get rid of some of her complexes in such a way...You know, sometimes when we are scared to do something, we try and do that and after that we are not afraid anymore.

I couldn't care less what people unacquainted with me wear. I think it's a shame girls dress in such unflattering attire when there's clothes out there to suit every shape and size.

I by no means judge people by their clothes. Sorry if my post came out that way. I was just giving my opinion on clothes, not the people in them. Then again that wasn't probably directed towards me, I'm paranoid because I used to be made fun of my clothes too. People should be past the stage where they get thier kicks from making people feel like shit. I agree with hipsta jess. You people who are quick to judge, I doubt you've always been fashionistas.

Anyway, the original concept behind clothes was to cover yourself, keep you warm blah blah blah. We changed it so clothing refelcted our personalities - which is fine but when people criticise that it gets personal. I'll admit, when I see people wear real short skirts - belt size lol - i look at the clothing and think why the hell they'd choose to wear it. Then I slap myself upside the head and remember that this is what they're comfortable with, so if they're fine with it, so am I. But the line must be drawn for clothing for inapproprite situations. I don't think many would consider a mini skirt to a job interview. Clothes do so many other things then what they were originally designed for. Such is life I suppose. I hope some people realise that clothes aren't a major part of life.

OH MY GOD.

TALK ABOUT MISSING THE FUCKING POINT.

i don't think anyone's SAYING they've always had impeccable taste and grooming. god knows i haven't.

but the fact of the matter if someone you don't knpw walks past in the street, you're not going to judge them based on their goddamn personality. you're going to judge them based on what you can SEE, ie, how they present themselves. and i'm sorry, a muffin top and beer gut with stretch marks just looks slovenly.

stop being such p.c. pussies and acting like you've never judged someone on slight alone before.

yeh, its a natural instinct to judge people you don't know by their appearance- its what we've been doing since we were born. but by saying that i mean looking at a person and judging if they are friend or foe, someone u quickly take a shine to or are repulsed by at first sight, etc. but when you start to consciously judge someone, i.e. looking at their clothes, makeup, size... and bitching about it, that is when you are responsible for what you think.
personally, when i see someone, large or small, tall or short, wearing something that to me they don't look good in (and i'm talking extreme cases, not your usual person walking down the street) , then the thought that they don't look good does pass through my head. its just what i do and my opinion, regardless of whether i'm any better or worse myself. but what i definitely won't do is point and laugh at them or bitch about it to my friends, its just not a big deal to me.

i dont think its an issue of size (ie that fat people shouldnt wear certain things) its more about wearing what suits you. anybody, of any size, height, colour, sex, whatever, who dresses in clothes which are unflattering to their personal shape and colouring is going to look bad. you cant get around that. sorry to be blunt but a size 18 person of either sex is most likely not going to look great in minishorts, and will probably be judged for wearing them. likewise a size 6 person in the same shorts could look equally bad. and im not saying that larger people should not wear short summery clothing, im saying they should do it tastefully and perhaps realise (and this goes for people of any weight) that there are options other than miniskirts etc which keep you cool in summer. eg - if you are very large around the bum, a flowy skirt might be better for flattering the figure than a mini. it's heat reducing, it looks decent. the person is less likely to be whispered about/pointed at etc. everybody wins.

ok, having read over that i dont know if i am making sense. so the basic point of this is: dress to suit your body shape, dont try to suit your body shape to ill fitting clothes, it looks bad. if it fits and flatters, it's good, no matter what it is. if it makes you look like a jerry springer regular or look 10 sizes bigger then its not so good. WEAR WHAT SUITS YOU.
