Well, I got the same answers as who_loves_maths for both a) and b).
What textbook is it from?

it's from the cambridge yr 12 3 unit book, pg 448.

i have been at the question for two days but can't get it out.

i'd like to think that the answers in the back are wrong but i am always nervous doing this because the answers are usually correct.

Hmm...particularly in Cambridge.
However, it may still be wrong. Maybe we should Get Slide Rule to come here and have a look at it.

i've yet to meet a question in Cambridge whose answer is indeed incorrect.
