I understand how to basically expand a large binomial such as (x+5)^8.

But in Maths In Focus EX 11.2

its starts incorporating Combinations.... can anyone just explain what it's really talking about... it seems to be all over the place.

8C0 x<sup>8</sup> + 8C1 5x<sup>7</sup> + 8C2 25x<sup>6</sup> + ... + 8C8 5<sup>8</sup>

If you look at the examples you can see the pattern with the coefficients for (x+a)<sup>m</sup> is clearly

T<sub>n</sub>= mC(n-1)x<sup>m-(n-1)</sup>a<sup>n-1</sup> and the expansion goes from n=1 to n=m+1

yeah m8, it all comes from the symmetry or pascals and the relation of that 2 binomial expansions....read through it all, makes sense really
