mole (n): The amount of a substance that contains as many atoms, molecules, ions, or other elementary units as the number of atoms in 0.012 kilogram of carbon 12. The number is 6.0225 × 10^23, or Avogadro's number.

basically, how much of a substance as the same present in a 0.012Kg of carbon-12. - usually, you just say the amount of a substance.

mol is just the abbreviated form of moles i beleive.

molar (M): Containing one mole of a substance

hope that helps

When people say a 1 molar solution of acid, they mean a 1 mole/litre solution, if thats what you mean. Its really confusing because sometimes in exercises they can also say 1M HCl.

lol

No, all he's asking is what is mol short for, as a unit of measurement

mol means moles

You say 20 molL-1, which is the same as saying 20M

You don't bother writing 20 mol when you're talking numbers of moles since your working is usually preceded by n = anyway, giving as much indication of the units as you need.

because everyone answered before i did, i'm going to sum it up :p

mole: one mole of an element/compound contains as many atoms/molecules as there are in 0.012kg of carbon-12. the number - avogadro's number - 6.022 x 1023.

mol: abbreviation for mole.

mol L-1: number of moles per litre.

n: unit for moles.

M: molar mass.

m: mass.
