Physically preventing imports entering the country through a blockade. This wouldn't be considered a legitimate answer in a hsc exam would it?

asking out of curiosity more than anything

Protectionist policies are driven by economic factors. I think a trade bloc (eg. EU in particular) can be argued as being Protectionist but the text book won't say that.

An embargo is driven by Politics. I don't think it will be accepted.

An embargo is just banning a country from importing their good into australia. Australia may be boycotting them for some reason, maybe because countries such as America are led by dickheads. We should place an embargo on america :vcross: :D

I guess its a blockade when you prevent a nation from trading full stop and its an embargo when you do not let that nation trade with you

Yah... come to think of it, a blockade sounds more physical... you know... with guns and shit.
