I liked the 5/6/7 series designs too- but i'm generalising in terms of how reviewers/critics perceived those new designs.

I think my favourite model overall would still be the previous generation 5 series- that had a really nice look; intimidating and powerful; but not huge?
the headlights are intimidating. saw one yesterday driving at night. far out, the angel eyes look *sooooo* hot.
and the new 3-series, i thought it was crap at first, but saw one in real life parked. was taking a good look at the front, it's pretty hot. way better than the E46 anyway. Wanna see the new M3 look.

I heard the new coupes aren't gonna look that nice as the outgoing model- but maybe time will show that BMW (and Chris Bangle and co) can still manage to revamp the industry with bold and contraversial designs that end up influencing other car makers to follow suit.

After seeing the 3 Series advertisement on TV... the connection between the e46 and the e90 is much easier to see... and it's also a nice add!

Every one of the 3 series BMWs (except perhaps the E21) has gone through a facelift phase, about half to three quarters of the way through the model run. The E46 in that pic, EATAPIE, I believe is a facelifted version. There is no model between E46 and E90. The ad goes 2002 - E21 - E30 - E36 - E46 - E90.

As for the headlights, you can get yourself some E90 taillight action for less than 10 grand, in the form of a Daewoo Lanos (4 door).

its the model for 2002 - 2005 E46s
there r some (but very few) normal looking E46s that are 2002 as well but thats the final one.
my mate has an E46 like that. they cum with better stock features than the regular E46s (generally speaking 4 each respective engine size) and im not sure if they released the coupe version of that E46 in australia. when u c 1 of those ones its usually a 318i coz i haven't seen a larger engine model like that in aust b4. (i dont think they hav them??)
the 1 before that looks heaps better (the 1999-2002) E46 provided that its a coupe........ coz that 1 is fugly

IIRC wasn't there a significant upgrade to the E46 in 2002/2003?... and that picture looks like the ones towards the end of the E46 before E90.

ummm the main difference was the appearance and internal thingamajigs. going off my mates car, even the 318 has gps and tv screen (which isn't stock on 318, 320, 323 regular e46s as far as i know maybe even 325s and 328s). interior like seats and dash n all that shit is the same. performance etc etc seems the same compared to the regular e46. alot of those newer e46s (2002-2005) come with m technik kit or just front bumper im not sure.. and better rear lights. im not talking about the stripe through the rear lights, but the leds in it or some shit. costs more to replace coz their different type of lights.
the original e46 shape from 1999-2002 (coupes) was still used for the m3's for 2002-2005... except that it was widened (adjusted the fenders) and wheels repositioned

in the end the (lack of) speed, steering etc seems same as a 318i e46 from 1998-2002.

i probly got a lot of dates wrong there...

I actually like the 1 series... I think it embodies the idea of a "Baby BMW" really well; especially when they were running those newspaper advertisements showing a few diff BMW models next to each other; and you could clearly see the 'family' with the 1 series. The new 3 series however I don't think fits in with that family so well... but maybe it'll fit in more with the Bangle family.

I rkn beamers are overpriced pieces of crap. A honda accord euro luxury beats the crap out of a beamer 320i!!!

Whilst an Accord Euro is a nice car and so on, it still doesn't have the same effect as a BMW/Benz. You pay for the status.

That's a bit extreme. And bimmers are hardly pieces of crap. I would wager that the Honda has a far worse rate of depreciation, and would also become a rattlebox far quicker than the bimmer, most of which are solid as anything a decade (or more) after coming off the line. The 'Euro' tag on the Honda is also a little pretentious, a bit Lexus-esque.
But these forums do seem to be a spawning ground for all sorts of unsubstantiated (and extreme) generalisations.

haha.. well the accord euro luxury is a pretty damn fine car if you have driven in it. The beamer 320i is fairly well refined, but the euro is pretty much a masterpiece in all aspects.

The biggest difference would have to be the power/weight ratio + driving dynamics of the two.

I've never driven the Accord Euro but I've heard heaps of good things about it... *points at Ciel's posts too* Although I think I'd probably pick a 320i over an Accord Euro, even if the Accord Euro was superior in every way.
