Okay......I know this would be a really stupid question to ask but i really need some help..........

My teacher told me that the HSC visual arts major work is not just a singular work itself but a whole body of work that i need to have completed by August (which currently doesn't look like i'm going to have it done by then!) What does she mean by body of work?

I'm doing a big wearable art piece with wings and everything which is going to consume every little bit of time i'll have to do my art work. For the body of work does she expect me to hand in my wearable art and something else like a painting or photos or something?

Help!!!!

A body of work means u make up a few different things, as apposed to just one thing.. that are connected by either the medium or the subjectivity...

I'd focus more on ur works than on ur diary.

A body of work is more than one work, and you VAPD does NOT count as a work. It is simply used as backup if the markers believe that the work is not entirely your own, or whatever. I suggest you just do a few sketches or something that relate to the topic you have chosen and hand them in as well.

you can get copies of the description of the crieria for each medium you can use. your BOW can be one piece (say, a painting) or you can do a collecton of works (COW) which incorporates more than one of the mediums (say, you have your wearable, a few photos of people wearing it, a realated painting).

BOW is just the "word" they use now instead of major work (where you only produced one thing -- now you can do a whole body/collection of stuff) don't feel intimidated about it -- it just gives you more freedom to include a bunch of "stuffs" in your final hand in.

winicat is right, I checked up and it depends on what your medium is.

I just had another thought, make sure your work (which sounds very large) doesn't exceed size/weight limits. I think they're something like no more that 2 metres square and no more that 33kg or something ridiculous. Thats collectively too, all your works must together be within those limits.... :)

Yeah, the maximum weight is 34.4kg and it is very important to remember that that weight is INCLUDING PACKAGING. Ack, I don't even want to imagine amazing works not being marked because with the packaging it exceeded the maximum weight restriction :-(

Yeah, I'd have to agree, you'd be pretty cut if that happened to you, thats why im trying to avoid canvas and anything with MDF or sculpture, 'cos when I make art, I make BIG art (like 4 A2 peices of paper together)...

Also another thing.... my friend is creating works using stained glass... is that considered an artform? She also said something about free-form soldering.... Just wondering if anyone knew if the BOS consdiered these artforms? Or is there any restrictions on what an artform is??

You can't use glass ... You won't even get marked for it if there is glass on your artwork

Didn't think so... 'cos we're not allowed to use any dangerous objects or whatever. But, does broken mirror count as glass? 'cos I know of heaps of people using mirrors as part of their works....

broken mirrors would be a huge no no. the best thing is just not to use glass or mirrors at all. if you do, you have to make sure it's secured really really really well and not able to be broken at all. that's one of the reasons why you can't frame your works with glass, cause of the breakage factor.

also: anything, really, can be an "artform" -- just as long as there's no glass lol talk to your teacher about the stained glass stuff, you may have to call the BOS art people and check if it's okay to use in that way.

and you cant use bodily fluids too (eg. blood, and u kno the rest) ... i kno that sounds a bit off but our teacher stressed that to us as much as the glass factor so it cant hurt to bring it up.

and yea 'body of work' is jsut a term they use now, doesn't necessarily have to be many works, if you saw art express this year they had a few single-works (paintings etc).

like that other guy said... id try to aviod glass, bodily fluids, any kind of sharp object or anything u think they might question. they questioned my work cos it had nails hammered into it, and my teacher made me file down the edges of my perspex so it couldnt cut anyone, mirrors are a big no no (unfortunatly). be inventive, if you want glass, use perspex, if u want blood try dripping dark red paint from an eye dropper and if u want pus try mixing custard powder with vasoline, but make sure you note it all in ur vapd... cos if they question it, u'll need the backup to prove its not real.

Try making severals sets of wings that are interchangeable to create different meanings. Include photos of the outfit being worn somewhere- dif places and audience reactions.
