HSC
2017
High School in the Western Sydney Region
Ranked around 400 this year for HSC (Very, very poor Cohort)
Aim: Bachelor of Accounting, want to branch off into the uppity of Financial Advising (ageing population)
UWS: 75 cut off
MAQ:88
Other universités I am not sure...

Question: How do I apply for bonus points or find out if it is applicable for me? Obviously aim is to get in on ATAR, but bonus points could be used to my advantage to increase my Atar. Do I automatically get points for going to a low economic school/disadvantage for being in the Western Sydney area of what? Honestly just need clarification and guidance about bonus points...

Regards.

Hey,

If you specifically want to do a bachelor of accounting there are a few places that offer it as well as bonus points in the Sydney area. MQ is 80 not 88 http://courses.mq.edu.au/undergraduate/degree/bachelor-of-commerce---professional-accounting and they also offer bonus points for performance in relative subjects and can receive a maximum of 10 bonus points. 300229 - Bachelor of Commerce - Professional Accounting
Subject B4 B5 B6
Business Studies 1 1
Economics 1 2 2
English (Advanced) 1 2 2
Legal Studies 1 1
Mathematics 1 2 2

UTS offers a bachelor of commerce (accounting) subject but since it a scholarship only course you a required to complete a questionare, have an interview and get an ATAR > 95. More info here https://www.uts.edu.au/sites/default/files/uts-business-bachelor-of-accounting-course-guide.pdf.

WSU offers again a bachelor of commerce (accounting). The sydney city ATAR is 70.10 ( I think its 70 for Western Sydney suburbs). They offer a max of 10 bonus points for performance in certain subjects. Like mq this is calculated automatically so no application is required.Bachelor of Accounting Subject Bonus Table
HSC/IB Subject Result Bonus Points
Accounting Band 5 or Band 6 10
Business Studies Band 5 or Band 6 10
Economics Band 5 or Band 6 10
Legal Studies Band 5 or Band 6 10
English (Standard) Band 4 5
English (Standard) Band 5 or Band 6 10
English (Advanced) Band 4 5
English (Advanced) Band 5 or Band 6 10

CSU also offers a bachelor of accounting and the ATAR is 65. I don't think there are any bonus points.

ANU also offers a bachelor of accounting but the ATAR is much higher at 86. However bonus points do apply Academic Bonus Points. It's easier to link this one http://www.anu.edu.au/study/apply/bonus-points.

I also think Notre Dame offers a bachelor of accounting but I don't think they list an ATAR you'de have contact them yourself.

Considering all of this you have a lot of options for Accounting undergraduate study in NSW/ACT it just ultimately depends on your ATAR and what subjects you're doing. Note if you go to an EAS school you need to apply via UAC and the concessions will vary from uni to uni so you'll need to contact them (prolly just call its more direct).

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you need more assistance! Have a good one :)

Thankyou Ben, honestly the time that you have taken out to put forth some informtion has been much help.
That is the goal, to go for the Bachelor of Accounting, then specialise in financial planning, yet only some degrees offer this in the course. Eg: at UWS, there is the Bachelor of Accounting but it specialises in financial planning and taxation. Financial planning is something that appeals to me, in every sense of the job, hence my wanted pursuit.

As for subject choices for my year 12 year at the momentI am doing Physics, Adv Maths, Adv English, PDH/PE, Bio and 2 Unit Religion.

In all honesty I think the accounting at UTS is the best or the co-op commerce @ UNSW because ultimately you need internships to get employed and ur cpa. Then once youve had some experience and your industry qualification the sky is the limit. But until then you gotta remember what the aim is (especially since accounting like actuarial is one of the fields that require work beyond undergad. tertiary study to become qualified...)
