wow you guys...my lists haven't come up yet but you have me worried. Definitely worth joining coop though...and second hand books if you can find ones in good condition are a good idea too. No one thinks textbooks are going to be cheap but the amounts some of you are relating, especially for one semester seem extensive in the extreme. I hope you guys can cut the totals somehow...good luck with that, and saving! :)

Some Money Saving Tips for textbooks:

Not all UWS campus's have a second hand bookshop (only blacktown has) but it doesn't mean you can't buy second hand texts from other uni's. you can also sell your textbooks to these places too and also post your law texts on the LEC Forum below.

University of Sydney second hand text shop: http://www.src.usyd.edu.au/bookshop.html

UTS second hand book shop: http://2bb.uts.edu.au/

University of Sydney second hand texts forum for law: http://members.boardhost.com/lawext/

The LEC Forum is great- I have posted to sell my law books and people have brought them. And I have also brought some law texts too. Its just like a huge message board for texts and stuff.Technically we are not supposed to post on it, but whose checking. There are heaps of posts from people at other unis etc. So this is a great facility for those studying law.

All of the second hand book stores, allow other students from other uni's to buy books, prices are heaps cheaper and you can search for the books in their internet search option. Also, if u don't want to go into sydney/uts you can buy the books over the phone- I think. Also, they have the facility where students also advertise their books there- but you have to go in for that.

Anyway, hope this helps!!!!!

Also, before you buy your texts- go and have a look at them first. Some books are not that huge and cost a packet. If you can be bothered and have the time, borrow the book from the library and photocopy the whole book at Officeworks. It saves heaps and heaps of money. I did this to a psychology book that was $160.00 and photocopied and binded it for just over $50.00. The good thing is that I got to underline and highlight it too- which helps.

Also, in most subjects you will only read certain chapters from textbooks- depending on the unit outline etc. Therefore, you don't end up reading the whole book. Sometimes, if u know the chapters in advance (check reading list and or unit outline) it might be better the photocopy these chapters instead of buying the books.

Textbooks are expensive, but I have used many of them again too- so some are not a waste of money.

Natstar, yeah they've probably changed the text..they might do them stupid controls or something with that online card thingy.
i had a stupid rmeote for AIM acct, never worked so we bought it for nothing, and then when it did work idiots kept mucking with it by repeatedly pressing the remote to the sensor and stuffing the sensor up anyway.

Natstar, the tourism subjects at Richmond campus generally don't have textbooks - maybe this is the case with the blacktown tourism subjects.

oh there there cape, they're meanies...I think they are out to get us...check a few other book stores and see if the prices differ...taking into account the 10% you can get off for being a member of the coop of course...maybe somewhere else is a little kinder to our pockets...maybe you can get a good second hand deal?

Didn't think that they could raise the prices that much that quickly. Oh well, mum can get it for 20% off, but still its a lot. Hopefully tourism subjects won't need any textbooks again this year. You right, they are being big meanies. Looks like I won't be buying computer games in march  damn.

that's right, your mum works in a book store...I remember now...but even still, they don't want you to buy any computer games so you have one less thing to procrastinate with...it's just outrageous... :p

woah...the amount just keeps going up and up...I'm feeling pretty glad right now that my lecturers haven't got around to posting the lists for 3 out of my 4 subjects...I'm a lot happier and richer...and hoping my textbooks cost no where near that much...at least that's for the year, if it was the semester I'd be jumping out the window, and definitely hunting for second hand books!

Hey Natster I looked through Parramatta on the coop website for some of my subjects maybe u could do the same

I gave up on new texts after I noticed at least one for each subject worth $100. Does anyone know much about first year Business Management text books, what I actually need to get and what is just listed? Cuz i wanna get in early and get second hand books while i can, there is no way i could afford new books! I've already been on textbookexchange.com and made offers cuz i know if i leave it ppl will get in before me.

Is anyone selling any textbooks relevant to:

Management Foundations, Introduction to Information Systems, Marketing Principles, Accounting Information for Managers???????????
