After reading the second hand book thread, I remembered as a child, many many years ago I recall I was at the library one day and someone was asking about those old library items for sale, and the librarian was saying something about how some of the books get affected by some fungus or something (not sure what it was), and they sell the book so it does not affect the other books it is kept on the shelf with.

Does anyone know anything about this? Maybe not, I've never heard it mentioned ever since.
