About me:

Hey there! I'm currently in my 2nd year at UNSW - deliberately being vague here, as I'm more comfortable sharing my personal details privately

Like many students (and tutors!), I never truly got English or understood why it was compulsory until I was in Year 11/12. My performance throughout junior English was tumultuous - sometimes I got 90s, sometimes I got 60s, no matter how hard I tried. I'm a person who thrives from structured learning - unfortunately, the way that junior English was taught was the complete opposite, full of overcomplications and dilutions that made me feel anxious and lost.

In Year 11, I figured out that the English syllabus is designed to reward original thought and expression. When a syllabus is written for young people by adults who are many decades older than them, these noble intentions can get lost in the process, especially when high-quality, intentional strategies that can build this fundamental skill aren't taught to students from day one. Students have to make-do with vague, basic techniques like PETAL or TEE, which are far too weak for the academic rigour demanded by the HSC. We all know how the Michael Jordan quote goes - there's no point in practising the wrong technique for 8 hours a day, because then you just get good at doing something the wrong way.

During Year 11 and Year 12, through a lot of grit and self-reflection, I managed to fix my foundations and bad habits and turn my marks around completely. I created my own intuitive methods that fixed the very basics, like identifying the technical function/effect of a technique in a quote, to the more nitty-gritty stuff like flow-on arguments and seamlessly answering the question without the anxiety-induced brainfreeze or essaydump. I'm pretty proud of what I've come up with, and I really want to help others see the benefit of conscious and intentional practice and appreciate the value of English, even if it feels like your number 1 enemy at times!

Other services:

Yr 7-10 Maths and Science also available on request, discounts/bundles also available
. I achieved a 93 HSC Mark (overall) in Mathematics Extension 1, and a high Band 5 in Mathematics Extension 2 and I study science at university on full scholarship from an eminent national science foundation.
