It's very interesting that in NSW the ALP leader would is the kind of rich, sophisticated man while the Liberal leader is portrayed as a "battler".

However similiar... i am forced to think there must be SOME fundamental differences...

People here who support the ALP often see howard as some sort of monster, i have heard 'hitler' used to describe him. They feel that the Liberal party is 'evil'. Now this is not all ALP supporters but alot of them.

Alot of Liberal party supporters feel that the ALP supporters are 'commies, hippies'. They somehow manage to consider the ALP as a communist, or socialist party. Not all Liberal supporters but alot of them.

There is a big gap, but i feel it gets smaller as we get older because alot of it's just bullshit.

What an idiot... I am ashamed to be a Liberal supporter today.
now all you have to do is realise that you're too good for the Liberals and become a labor supporter.
Or is that just wishful thinking on my part :p
I miss being in NSW. Victorians are strange. and all I hear about is the Victorian government, which I know nothing about. *sigh*

At least my party doesn't expose police secrets in current operations.

Bob Carr's leadership and political ability are admirable. His brilliance as Premier is undeniable.
Bob Carr's ability to make the trains run on time is admirable. Brogden's inability to exploit this is undeniable.

The question, and i think its a far more important one, i ask is 'Do we need a State Parliament?'
I dont think you've really qualified why state politicians are worse than federal politicians. Rather than childish, I see all parliament sittings having a more egotistical aspect, which is inevitable when you have two sides both wanting power (one with & one without). I suppose this comes down to the idea of politics still being a man's world, with feminine methods of dispute resolution etc. ignored (many women MPs unfortunatly seem to conform to this).
However having everything run by the commonwealth would dangerously give power to the ruling government, which wouldnt respect the minority of states' (or in our case, every state in Aust.) view of who they believe should be in charge of hospitals, schools etc. etc. It's a good check and balance that we have at the moment. The states aren't under any pressure to tow the government line. (Stuff fed. labor)
Of course, Aust. is over-governed. Switching to, say, a UK model (federal level and more powerful local councils) would tidy this up AND retain the right of the minority to be locally governed by a body that has their local interests at heart...but who can be bothered?

I think it's pretty important iron woman, does Bob Carr really care about something happening to some outback community? no.
I think that you would be better off asking whether the relevant member of the state parliament cares... Bob Carr is only the Premier, much like John Howard is only the Prime Minister (i.e., it's the party/coalition/government that matters more so than the leader). Besides, how do you know that he doesn't care? Even if he himself may not address such issues on a regular basis, do you know whether the relevant minister cares, or whether the local members are letting their superiors (be it government or opposition) know of any regional/rural concerns?

just remember "That Bob Carr's a clever politician" hahaha, me and my mum always love to quote that line, *sigh*

i hate how brogden always moves his arms, it's so weird, and he never suggests ANY solutions.

in want chika back, she was one of the few liberals i actually liked, she was a great local member and nice (althought she did say "he should resign" a lot)

I second that! Bob Carr is Sydneycentric. He is focused on Sydney and Sydney only. Like a lot of politicians he favours what he knows, where he lives, where he grew up, etc. Sad but true.

Some liberal supporters consider labour as working class and lower class whereas liberals are upper class and middle class
