what exactly is the chemical formula for bromine water, as far as the hsc is concerned?

bc a number of textbooks/sample answers/other sources denote bromine water as Br2(aq) which is an orange/brown solution, however my teacher says it's BrOH(aq), a pale yellow solution, and that if we don't use the latter option in relevant equations, we'll be marked down in the hsc ?????

Both are accepted for the HSC exam. However, scientifically, BrOH(aq) is actually the correct formula.

In terms of school assessments, use what your teacher wants you to use since he/she is going to mark your exams.

In terms of the HSC, use whatever you want. Personally, I used Br2 (aq).

I've heard that H-Br is also an accepted formula You can talk about this one being a strong acid in your safety/precautions section too.
