I don't particularly want to rubbish anyone going to Burgmann, so instead I'll rubbish their college. Burgmann is without a doubt the worst college on campus. Ursies has a nice small community and the bear, Johns has a sporting culture and Bruce, BG and Fenner are the all around super-nice-happy-fun-people.

On the other hand, Burgmann has terrible food, terrible prices, small rooms and a queer North Shore culture. If you live in Sydney and haven't already, I'd advise that you take a tour of a couple of the colleges before choosing Burgmann, or at least get onto postal.anu.edu.au and ask about/look at some of the opinions of Burgmann kids.

Nothing can be as bad as the jock nature of Johns.....

I'd probably say it goes Fenner>B&G=Ursies>bruce>burgman>johns>living in a nunnery.

I definantly advise against moving in anywhere without having toured it as a tip if possible come back during term time (eg not on Open day) and just wander around see what its like day-to-day.

before anyone else informs wrongly...

its just like a boarding house for first year girls that are not from canberra

i think there are 38 girls living here at the moment from the various insitutions around canberra.

and its called the nunnery becaue it was an old nunnery... its not anymore - and no there are no strict rules or anything... nothing like that

catered yes - every night bar sunday - and you really help yourself to what you want during the day

no special requirements - you dont have to be catholic or anything

We are about 15minutes bus ride from uni - takes about 5-10mins to drive and its about 1hour walk - its in Lyenham - so if you know your suburbs that is about 3 from ANU

lol its no problem at all.

you can ring up and they will send you a brocher on the place - the phone no is 02 6249 6182 - ask for Lyn or Helen

the you will have to fill out an application form - say where you are intending to study - and you will need a reference (i just sent them my school one when i got it)

then next time you are visiting canberra you would probably come in and see the place, have a chat to lyn or helen and decide from there.

They had an open day when the unis where having one so there is about 20 odd girls already signed up so there are plently of rooms left.

Its really not a bad place to stay for the first year and you should usually get another person doing your course here as well.
