I was thinking about double majoring in either one of these and did a bit of research using the UNSW handbook. Can anyone point out the major differences between these specialisations as they seem very similar and even employ some of the same courses...would employers prefer one over the other?

They are definitely similar, in fact the handbook links you to the same page when you click on "Business Law" and "Taxation" on the Specialisations page (that and they are both run by the School of Business Law and Tax). However, they are listed as separate majors, and it says you are not allowed to co-major in tax if you are majoring in business law, and vice versa.

Oh... Fair enough. Not sure if I can offer much help but my sister majored in Biz Law and it helped her alot when she did her CA. Taxation I think is more suitable (obviously) if you want to pursue a career in tax. It's well paid (compared to audit) btu it's also very restrictive. Biz Law is more general and will be useful in more places than tax (in terms of "choice" of occupation; not necessarily prospects).

Biz Law is highly recommended if you have any remote interest in Law, and if you pursue CA/CPA studies in future, as seremify said.

I did a Biz Law co major with Accounting, and looking back on the past 3 years, the most I learnt and can still recall now are topics from Biz Law subjects. It's much more interesting than your standard accounting subjects

Did you find it really challenging? I personally suck at memorising cases and so on... and get this feeling that Biz Law will be full of that. What do you think?

Ive been told many LEGT courses were WAM boosters. This may be very wrong though.

Mmm, you don't really have to memorise cases as such, more the concepts.
Tax is open book exam, you get case lists to take in the exam for a couple of the other subjects too.
