Intel Pentium 4- 2.8GHz 800

Asus P4C800 Deluxe Intel875, S-ATA, Raid, 1394, G-Lan
Or maybe
Asus P4P800-VM Intel865, S-ATA, Lan, Sound,S-VGA, Lan?

Pionner 4X DVD-/+R, DVD-/+RW 1O6D
OR
Sony 510A 4X DVD-/+R, DVD-/+RW Retail Box

And i need some ideas on a graphics card, nothing to chatty hehehe. [ would an average one be good for watching dvdz? ]

The last time I chose parts for a friend, he rang me every 5 minutes asking "is this good" or "can you find me a better price".

I won't do it again, sorry.

But:
Graphics: Any GF4 card will be fine, low-end
LCD: I have an Acer, but you can go for Samsung or Sony
I have the DVR-106D, so I am biased towards the Pioneer.

But the Sony's do look a lot better (on the outside).
Everything else looks fine to me, it's ultimately your computer, and your decision. :)

Remember in that other post about some guy wanting a video/sound card combo?

I mentioned ATi radeon 9000/9200 all the way to 9800.
But I was targetting 9200/9600

you bagged me out for that saying he's not a bank or something :p ... whats the go!!!

but if you're a real tightwad, get a P4C and overclock it like me :p
running at 3.5GHz now, on a 2.4C

there's value for money,
stock hsf and air cooled (new case btw, antec sonata -- ask herrick at school winston :p)

I dont believe so, no.

Go Intel P4s with HT!
(looks at his "dual" processors - two logical ones anyway)

gotta love that task manager, displaying 2 processors 2x3.5GHz :D

i have an abit IC7-g, P4C 2.4Ghz (800 fsb, o/c to 1ghz fsb), and fiddled with memory timings -1GB ddr400 (2-5-4-4 last time i checked) and did some tinkering etc... but it's a stable cpu, wont be upgrading for a few years.

lol.. you'd make a good computer salesman!

"yeah... get this... it's not the best... but it will work for you"
=D

i dunno,
in the end... people can pick their own parts, buy their own things, because it's their money -- let ppl think for themselves hehe... that's what i've learnt. you can't spoonfeed everyone and explain every little thing, ie "what does this do? what is better, etc" -- get them to research it themselves, learn something new, learn a few skills etc :)

i'll shut up now and go
hehe

g'night dudes

how about hyper threading is like a load of shit

i mean it just increases better multi tasking

each task a computer does is situated in a thread

so hence hyper threading means it can handle lots and lots of threads simultaneously thus better multi tasking

but P4's still suck.. AMD's rocks... if you grab the retail 2500 xp barton and a corsair 512 DDR 3200
with the nforce 2 mobo

with no addiotnal cooling u can get a brand new stable 3200
by changing the FSB and it's absolutely stable like hell trust me

intel's are just high costing loads of crap

dont ever be a target of the additonal hypes of things

probably AMD has the same technology but they're not as wanky as Intel to add HT on their logo to make itlook owoowooow powerful

pfft gay

AMD is true computing

HT hardly makes a difference anyway. In some cases, it may slow your application down (if it doesnt support HT). However, the latest p4's with 800mhz FSB are currenty the fastest but for the price i would go for an XP 2500+ (good performance/price ratio) and as Winston said, motherboard with nforce2 chipset.

If ure not playing games and ure watching DVDs often, DONT get a card from Nvidia. The 2d image quality is usually crap compared to ATI. If u want true crisp 2d image quality go for Matrox. However, if u want a combination of speed/image quality then go for an ATI based card.

Hope it helped :)

so applications must support the hyper threading tech as well??
Wait until the 'designed for HT' software comes out, let's not talk about games (if possible).

HT is just a technology, implemented now, but it still needs a bit of work, etc when it comes to creating software (again, im not a software/programming guy :))

Future P4's (ie the prescotts and later the 3.4, 4GHz+ next year) will support 'better/optimised' HT.

Oh yeah... did I mention that I'm an nVidia/Intel/asus fanboy? J/K
I also like Ati, nforce2 based mobos and amd... but maybe just not alot :D
