but like 12 year olds discussing sex?really? i mean they're immature emotionally and physically ( and possibly spiritually and socially) and they'd be all like YEAH PUT MY DICK IN THAT YEAH!
Once again, do you have any evidence at all that merely talking about sex and having a basic understanding of it will lead to higher rates of underage sex?

I can talk about war without actually going to war. Hey, turns out that applies to lots of things. We human beings have this amazing capacity for abstract though.

Yep that's a genuine concern. It's just like when I listen to rap music about killing cops, I immediately rush out to murder police officers.

I never see a shred of evidence that children being exposed to sexually suggestive material is actually harmful. Why should we pretend like sexuality doesn't exist?
I concur.
I think openness and the importance of respect in regards to sex/sexuality is the way to go, and it should be something people feel comfortable talking about.
If it's seen as something that should be secretive or 'taboo' or whatever, then the more likely kids are going to go buy these magazines to find out and 'explore' for themselves, rather than feel they'll be embarassed or in trouble by asking parents or friends.
It's because it's seen as such a touchy subject that there's all this bullshit controversy about magazines like zoo and ralph (that aren't eeeeeeven soft porn. pfft)

I'm sorry if this is a tad incoherent, it makes sense in my head.

Primary school age children are taught about the function of sex. It's all very biological.

bit odd how you can have sex legally at 16 but you have to be 18 to buy condoms

I've been told stories by my teacher where he teaches yr 8 kids and he overhears them talking about planning to have sex with each other. Also this one time he intercepted a note that said "my mum won't be home till late wanna come over and **** me?" i read the note and i couldnt stop laughing. stupid kids.

thats not true.

otherwise, it would be kept behind the counters at woolies, like ciggies.

also, any kid could just grab a box and pay for it quickly and quietly at a self serve station in woolies

but if all the "mystery" surrounding sex was removed and it was explained to them in an appropriate context... then would they see the need to explore it themselves?
This is what I mean.
Educating kids properly and encouraging them to feel they can be open about sexuality will be a lot more beneficial to them than finding out off the interwebs and from magazines.
It would probably also prevent the breeding of retard kids who think you can get pregnant from kissing and other bullshit (i don't mean like 4 year olds, there was a girl at my school in year 8 who thought this was true)

*facepalm*

Teacher, parent or other trusted adult explains how sexual reproduction works, the risks involved with unsafe sex and how those risks can be minimized.
The emotional importance of sex should also have more emphasis placed on it, not just the biological and health aspects.
