Hey i really want to do ext his but i want some information on it....just wondering does any1 hav any info on it.....or even a websites where i can get the sylabus thanx

The syllabus is very general as it gives flexibility in terms of options in studying a key issue (for us it's Napoleon, the popular choice is JFK or Elizabeth). Ask whoever will be your history extension teacher what he/she plans to study after Historiography/What is History part. For me doing Napoleon was more incentive for me to stay because I had an interest in the Napoleonic Era

Shame, I would have loved to do Napoleon. We're doing Elizabeth as our case study.

Studying historiography can get extremely tiring and boring, however the case study is quite interesting. I dropped ext hist because it is an extremely time consuming course and if you're the type to procrastinate, it may not be a very good choice. The main thing i've noticed is that a few people have had difficulty understanding historiography - it can be hard especially since each historians work will vary based on context, perspective etc. You must also constantly be reading books about history - what it is, how its represented/documented etc.

Assessments/ Tests

1. Proposal
2. Essay - Usually - What is history?
3. Essay - Question based on case study
4. Trial Exam 2 essays (historiography/case study)

Major Work - Essay on chosen topic
Major work includes journal.

HSC
1. Exam - 2 essays (historiography/case study)

Pros
- Interesting if you enjoy history
- Helps towards essay writing in modern history
- Major work: can choose own topic
- If you happen to have a keen interest in your chosen topic - research may be fun.

Cons
- Time consuming
- Assessments are worth shit (my first essay was worth 3.3%)
- Can get boring
- Morning and afternoon classes
- the fact that we have to do a major work and sit for an exam is just crap
- Involved a lot of work - i found ee2 much less stressful.
- Research must be constant
- Logbook is a bitch. It'll most likely be fabricated at the end.

Right now i can think of more cons than pros - if anyone would like to add anything, go nuts

*Have a look at the resources section on this site and look through some of the works written for ext history. It may give you an idea about what it is you'll be learning.

*Talk to your teacher

*Search the forums - they can be incredibly helpful
