Whatever you do, don't do a chapter on each of your methodologies!!

My cross cultural component was time so I did my chapters as past, present (incorporated my results from surveys etc.) and future (based on my results). Because my topic was a Popular Culture one, this was ensuring I could use most of the key concepts (outlined in the Syllabus).

Maybe if you post your topic, your cross cultural comparison and a short blurb on what you have done, we might be able to come up with something :)

haha okay i won't, just checking!thanks for the reply. My topic is the cultural divide. My question is at the moment is "is there a cultural divide between Middle Eastern youths and Australians in the community". My cultural comparison is Middle Eastern culture as im of Autralian background. So far i have done secondary reseach, focus groups, questionnaires(that have given to my peers at school)and statistical analysis as my methodolies. In my introduction i have included that i am interested to find out the reasons if there is one eg the cultural differences? Is this too much information to include in my pip...? I have also said in the introduction that the media has commentated on the cultural divide in the past months and problems this may have led to. So i could say how it can cause conflict for example the Cronulla riots.Would this also be too off the topic do you think? Im still not sure exactly what im am going to write..!so sorry if it is not very clear!:)

I think the Cronulla riots should be part of your CM, not the Intro. You can collect many articles on the C.R. and make a comment on them on how, as you said, the media portrays them thus causing conflict amongst the Australian community.

Maybe you can start off your CM by saying "The Cronulla Riots is a significance of the continuous cultural divide....." and possibly ease into your PIP about male sof ME ethnicity, maybe even bring in the issue of Multiculturalism - how people seem to reject it now (it may be a bit off topic though, possibly in the conclusion?)

Ok thanks. Yeah i have mentioned the riots in both Intro and CM... Intro i said it is how I thought of my topic as it's interesting and a prevalent issue in today's society, though i put it in my CM how its is a good example. I said how people haven made comments on the cultural divide due to this(-the media etc.) Is that okay do you think?

I have also collected all the articles on the Cronulla rights and Cultural divide from the newspaper so yeah. I think I would be better for my Pip to mention something like that quote at the conclusion as my question is -is there one.

I have included multiculturalism this is what i have said about it in CM so far..

There is always going to be some differences between any culture due to Australia’s Multicultural policy. It is hard however to work out if this policy is in fact successful and if this is creating a divide in our society. People of Middle Eastern backgrounds due to their different socialisation factors and also their personal identity will most certainly have some different values and beliefs but do they still feel like they have they same values as most Australians?...

Sounds like you'll be using lots of terms from the Equality and Difference elective. My advice is to go and have a look at the syllabus and see how many of the concepts apply to your topic.

The reason I said not to do methodologies as separate chapters is that the whole purpose of the PIP is to have smooth, coherent discussion happening. Your methodologies should be working together to enrich your discussion.

I agree with Kulazzi - the Cronulla Riots can be used as a discussion point and therefore integrated into the CM. Have you included questions about this area in any of your methodologies (e.g. in your focus group?) because you could link them together to discuss this point as part of your whole PIP question/topic.

hmmm.....I think you should do the differences first, then the Australian attitude (as this is kind of developed from recognising the cultural differences), and then, as you already have put, problems/conflict and the future.

Agree with Kulazzi! :) Sounds great - make sure you include analysis of different types of methodologies in each chapter.
