Dont forget the actual worth (weighting) of a subject.
I had a student confront me about "ripping" them off marks but they only did well in the small weighted tasks (even though the "raw" mark was out of 70 something usually--- they had added up all of the raw marks to come up with a figure out of about 230!), it was only worth 10%

there are (usually) another set of numbers that are used to work out weighted marks that you may or may not be aware of..check your assessment handbooks carefully.
If your assessment tables not only have % along the bottom (ie how much it is worth all up) but there are number/% inside the table (which can get really messy and confusing), you know that there are a second set of numbers being used (as set down by the BOS but not every school appears to use them- but everything evens out in the BOS/HSC end!)
If in doubt, check with the assessment/curriculum co-ordinator as to how this works out
