If you make a good attempt at it, you shouldn't get a band 1, but it is of course entirely possible to fail a subject.

well if you dont know anything about the subject and cant answer any questions...then yes, people in that situation tend to fail.

its not really one of those "general knowledge" subjects that you could fluke your way through, except for maybe probability, series and a few random questions in question 1 but i doubt they would total more than about 15 marks worth.

Actually, if you let your long-term memory containing all or most of your Maths knowledge intact kick in, you won't fail.
