What sorts of media are you exposed to daily?
[x]Television
[x]Internet
[x]Newspapers

[]Magazines
[x]Radio

2.a)Do you think the media has a great influence on body image?
[x]Yes But it depends on how a person views themself. e.g a person with low self esteem is more likely to be influenced by media
[]No

b)
Why?
Constant photoshoped images followed by a caption "ZOMG X looks lyk totally hot". Sadly even reputable news places fall into this trap.

3.Do you try to keep up with fashion trends?
[]Yes
[X]No Caring about what some closet homosexual in New York thinks i should wear.

4.a)
Does the media influence you to do this?
[]Yes
[x]No

b)
How so?

5.
Have you ever felt that you had to confrom to the images portayed by the media to become an accepted member of society?

Society hardly reads/views what i would define as media. The likes of E! should not be considered media.

6.Do you fell that the media has too much control over the way, we as a society view body image and fashion ?
[]Yes
[x]No Ultimately people can chose not to pay attention

[x]Television
[x]Internet
[x]Newspapers
[]Magazines
[]Radio

2.a)Do you think the media has a great influence on body image?
[x]Yes
[]No

b)
Why?
Because all the models promoting things such as clothes and makeup as well as things such as shoes or chocolate are thin and "beautiful" and are promoting for young teenagers that to "fit in" you must be as thin and as beautiful as them.

3.Do you try to keep up with fashion trends?
[]Yes
[x]No

4.a)
Does the media influence you to do this?
[x]Yes
[]No

b)
How so?
Because I am sick of people living up to looking like the models and wearing what they wear just to fit in. I dont wear the fashionable outfits because i want to look like me. I dont want to have to look like something im not just to fit in.

5.Have you ever felt that you had to conform to the images portrayed by the media to become an accepted member of society?
Yes, but now as ive matured i feel like i want to be me, not pretending to be someone else.

6.Do you fell that the media has too much control over the way, we as a society view body image and fashion ?
[x]Yes
[]No

Thanks for this, hope it helps, and good luck with your PIP.

[x]Newspapers
[x]Magazines
[]Radio

2.a)Do you think the media has a great influence on body image?
[x]Yes
[]No

b)Why? because....they just do. no, because they display images of women and men and state to people that this is the perfect body, this is the perfect look, perfect wieght, perfect hair, perfect everything. unless you look like this, you're nothing. and people follow it. they do their best to copy. everyone has their idols, and try to copy what they do

3.Do you try to keep up with fashion trends?
[]Yes
[x]No

4.a) Does the media influence you to do this?
[]Yes
[x]No

b) How so? well, i think some of the latest fashions have been ridiculously hideous. the trends come and go, you buy into them and stock up your wardrobe with all the style, then when it's finished, you wouldn't be caught dead wearing any of it because you'd be ridiculed. i myself wear what i want to wear. i don't care what anyone else says. if it's in, yay for me. if not, don't judge me. (always loved my electric blue fishnets with snakeskin print platforms:))

5.Have you ever felt that you had to conform to the images portrayed by the media to become an accepted member of society?
yes! i have. but after years of trying to conform to fit in with everyone and stressing over every little thing, i've decided it's not worth it. if you have to conform to images to fit in, then people only like you superficially anyway

6.Do you fell that the media has too much control over the way, we as a society view body image and fashion ?
[x]Yes
[]No

they are always forcing the images of bones into the media and dont follow through with the health risks and even on here there are ppl, like the girl with the diet plan that is really bad for her, that make others go maybe thats what i should do, instead of doing what is rite personally

1.What sorts of media are you exposed to daily?
[:) ]Television
[:) ]Internet
[:) ]Newspapers
[]Magazines
[:) ]Radio

2.a)Do you think the media has a great influence on body image?
[]Yes
[:) ]No

b)Why? It's my brain that tells me what body image i want. Sure, i might see a pic of someone and go: oh, that's what i'd like my body to look like; but really, it's coming from me. I want my body to be in better shape because i like to be healthy and i like to be able to push my physical limits.

3.Do you try to keep up with fashion trends?
[]Yes
[:) ]No
Fucking ugly supre clothes. have you seen them overall dresses? egh!

4.a) Does the media influence you to do this?
[]Yes
[:) ]No

b) How so? Cause most of da clothes the media would be advertising take waaaaaay too much coordination to assemble for me. I dont bother too much because i wear what i feel comfortable in, and most of tha clothes that are 'trendy' atta moment are fucking ugly anyways...

5.Have you ever felt that you had to conform to the images portrayed by the media to become an accepted member of society?
Nope. my friends<3 me the way i am
6.Do you fell that the media has too much control over the way, we as a society view body image and fashion ?
[:) ]Yes
[]No

How thin some girls want to be is madness! clothes hang better on slender people, sure, but i actually think that designers should take into account their market: not everyone can afford or wants to have liposuction and live on 0 carbs, etc. in fact, most people don't. it is simply impossible to remain in that shape for an extended period of time, and the ribs stickin out look is disgusting! If designers targeted their clothes to women within a healthy weight range, women would feel a lot more confident with the way they are!

1.What sorts of media are you exposed to daily?
[X]Television [X]Internet [ ]Newspapers [ ]Magazines [X]Radio

2.a)Do you think the media has a great influence on body image?
[X] Yes [ ] No

b) Why? whether we like it or not, the media presents the 'ideal' body image and this often gives unrealistic ideas to people. The media consciously present the ideal image as slim for females and muscular for males.

3.a)Have you ever been on a diet or tried to bulk up to gain a “perfect body”?
[ ] Yes [X] No

b) Was the media one of the factors of this?
[X] Yes [ ] No - after seeing these super slim models, i started to see the ugliness in it and learnt to appreciate my body more... however, this was also encouraged by education on eating disorders... i guess it kind of had the reverse affect on me...

4. Do you try to keep up with fashion trends?
[ ] Yes [X] No

5.a) Does the media influence you to do this?
[ ] Yes [X] No

b) How so? Often i find that the newest fashion trends (i.e. skinny jeans) simply do not suit my body, so i try to ignore these images presented by the media and develop my own style, or keep with my old one!

6. Have you ever felt that you had to conform to the images portrayed by the media to become an accepted member of society? When i was younger, yes, but after learning more and developing a wider sense of self, i've become more comfortable with my own style ad still feel accepted by my society...

7. Do you feel that the media has too much control over the way, we as a society view body image and fashion?
[X]Yes [ ]No

BTW!!! PLEASE JOIN MY FOCUS GROUP!!! IT'S LOCATED IN THIS FORUM AND THE THREAD IS LABELLED "FOCUS GROUP - PLEASE PARTICIPATE!"

We are all influenced by the media in some ways either directly or indirectly. Eg. we may want to be just like someone at school but they may have been influenced by media.
