It's hard to really like a person thoroughly when you're not allowed to in certain ways.
From their POV, they would say something along the lines of "we should still be able to love each other (have that emotional connection) without having sex etc...why is sex necessary", and apart from pleasure/joy/connection, its a hard response to answer to.
If they feel so strongly about not having sex then you cant really convince them otherwise.
