Its probably a n00b question but who ar ehte caped people carrying bricks lol? Is it some sort of initiation ritual, thats my guess....?

They get given a brick. They must carry it around for the entire first week, give it a name, and introduce it to anyone they introduce themselves to. Failure to do so, losing the brick or having it stolen will result in being forced to carry two bricks.
