Blood bank. How about putting money into student issues, like student spaces and such?

What students need:
Buildings that don't fall apart
Soap in Toilets
Ventilation in Changerooms
Representation with teacher/student conflict (like if a class doesn't like its teacher, and wants to go to another teacher's class, but the school won't let them)

What students want:
Senior School Uniform?
Senior study room with beanbags and such

What students don't give a crap about:
Donation drives
School discos
"Volunteers' Day Off"
Operation SUCK
Blood Bank, Especially when the majority of students aren't of blood giving age. I didn't turn 18 until I was well into uni.

*cough* *cough* That's highly unlikely at my school and I'm pretty sure other schools as well

If you didn't care about blood donation then you're pretty heartless and cruel. I don't turn 18 until I get to uni as well but most people in my grade do by the end of year 12. How else did you fundraise money for your formal, farewell week, yearbook etc? We do that by fundraising, donation etc. etc.. If your school just slipped the money to you then good for you.

Blood Bank is impractical for schools. If you want to donate, you go to the nearest blood bank. You can't bring a blood drive to a school when the overwhelming majority of people are nowhere near blood donating age. What SRC's need to do are events which cater to the majority of students.

When I was ISP Leader, our school's SRC was obsessed with making more and more donations to miscellaneous charities, each of which would add to their resumes. They SHOULD have been working to make our school a better place, even if that meant doing jobs which are beyond the scope of the SRC.

Come on guys, don't bitch and argue. I set this up so we could all help each other, not fight. Also, if a moderator sees this can they please sticky it or something so we can pass it down to the next generation of Captains!

thorrnydevil, i wasnt bitching, i merely stated what i did. Phanatical on the other hand, living up to his nickname, came out and flooded this thread with his own opinions about what students want, as if somehow he speaks for all of us. I didnt actually bring the blood drive to the school, we took groups down to the blood bank, just like you mentioned Phanatical. And since when did you become a world authority on the doings of student groups? what each individual SRC and prefect body from different schools do is their own business, not yours. So please get over yourself, stop attacking peoples opinions and let thornnydevil get on with his captains group. ALL i said was that i had organised blood drives and joked that i could help anyone who was also doing so to convince ppl to donate, get over it if you dont get jokes. If you actually had anything helpful to say, like perhaps giving some suggestions on how to organise and run things, please enlighten us. Dont crap on about the policies of different groups, because every group is different. This will be the last i have to say about the matter, even if you reply and preach to me again.

Student rights are the most important thing student representative groups should be dealing with. Why should student representatives throw away student money to causes just to pad their resumes?

i am not carrying on this arguement. again with that "should" word, let groups do what they want, its not up to YOU to decide. any it didnt cost anything to run the blood drives, so that whole throwing away money theory of yours just went down the shitter. we actually raised money, didnt waste it. student rights eh? FREE THE STUDENTS MAN!!! FIGHT THE POWER MAN!! student rights have been in place for years and theres very little groups like prefects can do to change anything, thats up to principals and such. while ofcourse student issues should be raised, thats isnt just what a prefect body can do. just what that other stuff isnt up to me to decide, and its not yours either, maybe u should give up on that, cause nobody's going to listen to you anyway. as if a post on a forum can influence what a student body decides or change school policy. and why are you so against charity? if a prefect body decides to concentrate on charity work, let them. why on earth would you criticise them for it? just think about what you're typing next time, dont be so opinionated.

and to everyone else, yes i know i said before that i wasnt going to say anymore on this so dont point it out:p and a question for all of you out there. do you all have individual jobs as prefects? i went to a public school and ppl would just volunteer for roles but some friends of mine at this private school had really specialised areas, like debating leader, assemblies etc...whats it like for the rest of you?

gday
talk bout some fiesty stuff going on in this thread sheesh!
i thought this was meant to IMPROVE the schools and share ideas....nevertheless, a bit of entertainment is never a negative!!
our SRC pretty much sux to tell u the truth..we dont organise half as much as u other guys...we have all grades involved and the only special thing we do is have roll call together :D..but ye SRC at my school is like this nerdy thing that no one joins...for next year i dont even know if we have enough people actually going for it to make it a proper election!
butt anyyhoww...im vice captain and im a chika - aka tanja ! :D but yee our captains dont exactly have a huge job either...i mean we went to that young leaders day and motivational venues..but..really all we do is run functions and assemblies...nuthn overly great!!
just thought id share my dissapointment ..
cheers

well, I don't know about your school, but I think my high school has the proper environment to suit and satisfy the students' needs and plus we're already putting money in for more technological advances and that's mainly the principal's duty.....(sorry Thorrny but I had to)

Well, I dunno abt you but I certainly see some needy children who have disability or mental problems or even some rare disease. I'm sorry if students at your school just use charities to stick it on their resume but my school, and I'm sure many others, use the money to fund for charity or stewart house. Geez man, you seriously don't care about those with problems.

Ok, firstly, Phanatical-Stop attacking other peoples ideas please...if someone joins their respective SRC then they already have something on their resume...they don't need to add even more. Also, prefects and captains are representatives of the Principal and the school executive, not the Students.

super_moron - I'm sorry if you thought I was attacking you. I was attacking everyone who was fighting. I like your idea about the blood drive...how exactly did you do it?

nondil - If you don't like my idea then POQ...but if you do your more than welcome to stay!

nah i didnt think u were attacking me man, i said that about Phanatical. yeah the blood drives are pretty easy to set up really. we already had an association with the blood bank before i became prefect so i just slotted into that role. but all that you have to do is contact the blood bank and arrange a date for your school to go down and donate. They provide a courtesy bus that comes to your school, takes students down to the blood bank and takes them back to school. they send some questionaires to you before the blood donation date that you should hand out to anybody interested in donating blood, you have to be 16 to donate, but u need parental concession in you're under 18. and yeah just get the word out to students in the school, how u do that is up to you, i just got up infront of assemblies and informed everybody. thats pretty much it. good luck with it if you're thinking of doing it :uhhuh:
