I was having a look at quotes online recently and the prices I looked up are ridiculous. Although, it's comprehensive cover though.

What do you guys have/are covered on?
Know any companies which show any mercy? D:

I find it quite strange, I'm not driving a sports car, it's a simple, late-model Japanese 4 door sedan.

And experience, age, model, car age play a huge factor into it.

That, and your premiums will fuck you over, just had a look at my premiums, ~ 1500.

The online premium quotes were about $3000 - $4000 for me. :/
But that's not the end of it, if I do have an accident the claim excess is $550 (standard) + $1200 (male under 25) = $1750.

If I have an accident, that's an immediate $5000/$6000 gone, all spent on a year of insurance.
This doesn't even include registration or Green slip, so arrrghhh.
(correct me on this if I've got it wrong, I'm not sure it's included but I'll treat it as not).

well if you have an accident obviously you won't claim it through insurance unless
a) it wasn't your fault, or
b) the cost of the damage will exceed the outlay you'd need

switch rego to your parents name, go on as a registered driver. 65% discount and you won't have to pay an unknown driver excess depending on who you go with and you'll end up saving a tonne in the long run.

My current car is a piece of shit so it's only covered for fire and theft.

I kind of wish it would get burned out, it would stop me from having to save for an upgrade.

I think AAMI is the best out there, considering the fact that just ask for the 'main' driver, which can be my dad. They said you can add as many people as you want to the policy thereafter, with no changes to the price.
Other companies require me to put in all drivers of the vehicle, including me.

That's brought it down to $1083, with $550 standard excess + $95 extra + $1200 (male under 25).

Should we vary it?
Here are the possible outcomes:

Male under 28, hardly any experience...

I put in that I had a brand new Maserati Granturismo, in my name, for the lulz and got the same message.

So, is it better to be a cheapskate with the premium for a higher excess or the opposite?
I think Option 2 looks to be the best.

It depends how much you value your car, and if, in the event of an accident, you could get by without it. If you don't need it, ie could take a bus/train/mums car everywhere, may as well just bother with TPP/F+T. Otherwise if you do need it, think of the worst case scenario, and the excess you could afford to pay in the event of an accident.

Its a simple question:
"Am I a dumbass who drives 9/10ths on public roads?"

Comprehensive sounds good, it's only $983, whereas TPP is $274.
I suppose I shouldn't tell them I plan to drive it all the time, as well as park the car at an open-air council carpark - outdoors, leaving it there all day and walk to school from there. :haha:

In the event an accident does happen, I guess I can say that;
"It was the first time I drove the car in over a month! D:"

And I DO drive on public roads.
I mean, as opposed to what, private roads? I do leave my driveway sometimes. ;)

I had a read of the Third Party PDS and found this.
"The amount covered for the fire and theft extension is the current market value of your car up to $5000."

So, even if the market value of the car is about $20k, they'll only cough up $5k in the event the car is burned to crisp?

nah pretty sure they will only pay out what you got it for at most.
In the fine print somewhere no doubt. Otherwise people would do it all the time on purpose.

And I DO drive on public roads.

The 9/10s part is the important bit.
