are you fucking stupid? IT COULD BE A FAULTY STARTER MOTOR even though tapping on it wont help hes still right. didn't u read the parts where i said "i cant say exactly whats wrong with the car" and "it could be at least 5 different things" and i continued to say things it could be such as the spark plugs? Of course it would have to be inspected by a mechanic! stop being a fucken smartass you idiot

She asked what the problem could be, I'm merely answering her question for her information
hahah

obviously it could be the starter motor you sped, obviously it could be many things. that is my point lol we dont know, therefore there is no point speculating you dumb cunt.

hahahah relax people, all ur suggestions r much appreciated
but yeah since i know nothing about car parts and stuff ill have 2 take it to a mechanic.

Since it's a European car, I'm assuming it's going to be notoriously expensive to get it fixed. :?

yes, and thats the reason i try to avoid taking it to the mechanic as much as possible, cos its a european piece of shit which has needed parts to be replaced every single time its gone to the mechanic since i got it 2 months ago.

in the past two months it needed CV joints replaced, and also the engine mount, cost a fucking fortune. oh and i need to buy the socket joint (or something?) which is needed to change the tyres, and i have to get it especially from volkswagen, i also need to buy a new spare tyre since the one that came with the car is punctured and cant be refilled. FML.

Did, like...anyone have a look at this car and did you do a REVS check, sounds like a bomb on wheels with the amount of repairs thats needed.

It could be many things: Battery dead, dirty fuel, engine starter as everyone has stated. Without someone actually being there and hearing it, no one here can give you a definite answer apart from sending it to a mechy. Give a us a full list of whats BEEN repaired or replaced, this way we can tick off each possibility. Also this will help you when telling the mechy what needs fixing and doesnt need fixing.

Silly mechy at the bike store wanted to top up my brake fluid, only did it day before so he wouldnt need to.

LOL What the?
That's really bad. :S

You should have gotten something reliable, like a Corolla. :)
Never been serviced during it's entire life. All my dad does is change the oil when he feels like it.
17 years and its been working fine, I crashed it once but it's still drivable. :haha:

nearly every ten year old car will need to have the cvs replaced. cvs are terrible. same with engine mounts, after ten years the rubber disintegrates. i just had mine replaced for ~$200.

i dont know about vw wheel nuts lol but wheel nut spanners should be like $20 from supercheap auto or something lol mostly there is about 4 different sizes. theres not really anything you can do about the tyre lol you kind of need one.

But what does servicing actually entail?
I fill up the washer fluid when I feel like it, the radiator got flushed once (god that was a terrible experience) and got replaced once too (y'know, screeech, bang).

Oil and oil filters can be changed at home then presto, DIY maintenance.
It's got like 270,000k's now. D:

said the dude that bought a bombed fizzer
Was running fine when i put the deposit on it and the REVS check was clear, so my bad, but it was the best $200 spent.

lolwth, it could be security nuts on the wheels.

Just google it, might be able to pick some up on ebay for cheaper.

Lol... Boohoo car stories. I got a few.

My old EA >>Ford<< Falcon S-pack... Notice the arrows. Now, I like Fords, but often the older ones come with problems.

Lucky this car is a project car (mechanics will laugh at this lol).

Okay, here goes:
Two head gaskets replaced ($800 a pop for installation).
Both bearings in the front replaced ($200 each).
Radiator replaced.
Full set of new shocks (old ones were dangerous).
Piston Push-rod replaced.
Piston linkages replaced (separate piston).
Hole in the engine block located and patched.
Earthing seal replaced (made the cars rear light assembly look like a disco whenever the right indicator was on haha).
CV's replaced (front end)
Power steering high-pressure hose replaced (burst open on the highway... Made a hell of a noise and got really hard to control lol)

Short in the cars wiring (I went hunting and found that a SINGLE 10 amp fuse controls the:
-CD player
-Interior lights
-Rear de-mister
-Wiper settings
-Windscreen spray guns
-Cigarette lighter

Holy sheet!)

There are a couple more problems:
Idle bearing needs replacing soon.
Water pump is squealing (needs replacing)
Wiring system needs complete overhaul and replacing.
Burnt lifter needs replacing (hole in it lol).

I'm sure there's more that I can't remember. But overall, I like the car. And it's recently been classified as rare. :D.

haha sorry i didnt realise that because your dad is an auto electrician and your uncle is a mechanic that you could diagnose cars without ever inspecting it, maybe you should start a business that specialises in diagnostics without inspections hahah

your 2 suggestions were it might be a fucked battery, so revving will help lol wtf and hit the starter motor with a hammer hahahah fuck

so obviously, dont you think, seeing as you know nothing like most of the people on bos, that her only option is to get an actual mechanic to inspect it?
hahahahaha fuck hahahah repped

Yeah, keep an eye on it.

By the way... When it happened, did it sound like the starter motor was cranking over? Or was there a loud CLICK! Or no sound from the engine at all?

Can't believe no-ones asked this lol.
