hmm for trichlorofluromethane = CFC-11

how do I work that out ?? I read it before but forgotten

Number of Carbon Atoms -1
Number of Hydrogen +1
Number of Fluorine

If I remember correctly.

Put them in that order ie the above becomes 011 ie 11 (0 dropped if first).

All others are chlorine

I think that you would have to add ninety to it.

So it will be 101

The first number will be carbons, wiht the second being hydrogen, and the third being fluorines.

Then fill in the empty spaces with chlorine.

Hahah! Not that it would matter much!
