changing courses?? (1 Viewer)

hi i am a year 12 student and i want to do early childhood teaching or primary teaching but im afraid i wont get the uai...or wont pass maths

i have recently heard that its possible to get into a lower uai course and then change to the course you would prefer....is this true? is it hard to change?

Why are you concerned about passing maths or not? Most uni courses do not have required subjects that you have to do.

Anyway, its true, you can transfer between courses. You can apply and enrol into a course with a lower uai and then do a guaranteed internal transfer as long as you get an above credit average, after one semester or two semesters.

Above credit average is equal to a gpa of 5.01 ... which basically means you need 3 credits and a distinction at the minimum. There are other combos, but I can't be bothered thinking at the moment

Its not hard to transfer, many students do it after a semester or a year. Infact - i knew a girl who was doing tourism and transfered into the primary teaching course.

oh okay thanks...from what my careers advisor told me i need 2 units of maths to get into any teaching course...if thats wrong ill drop maths asap!

nope. Why would you need maths for? You should check out the UAC book or website.

Anyway, you should also note that UWS has changed alot of their teaching degrees around. I'd advise you to also check that out as well, better to work things out early than rush it at the last minute.

if you are going to be doing teaching some courses to require you do maths...I'm not sure what level or if this is correct. Surely your career advisor would know this though? I'd definitely make sure just in case...the uni itself doesn't require it, though I'm not sure if the course does. If doing maths is a problem for you in terms of marks etc remember you can always do a bridging course if you need to. Like cape says though you can transfer to another course provided you have slightly better than a credit average, which is not overly hard to achieve. Do note though UWS is changing a lot of their courses! I agree with cape that you should make sure what's happening with the course you'd like to do. Don't worry about not getting the marks, there are plenty of options available to you, just do your best and see how things play out.

Sorta. You have to do arts or science something general like that to do education.

If you wish to pursue a career in primary education: Completion of the B Arts at UWS provides you with guaranteed entry to a graduate program in primary teaching if you satisfy the following criteria:
- undertake discipline units that meet the requirements for your chosen area of teaching
- achieve a 'pass' average throughout your studies
- apply within one calendar year from the end of the year in which you complete your B Arts program.

I do remember something about changes to education related degrees...I'm not sure if they have been totally cut or whether or not they are open to new students. If UWS has cut the course you want then of course you could try to transfer to another uni through uac if you have to...but we'll cross that bridge when you come to it...I'd read up on what's happening with teaching degrees before you make any definite plans though...a lot of degrees are being phased out...but it is offered to graduates like cape has said, so have a look at your options and see what you think.

Yeah, Education was cut this year.. at UWS Penrith campus at least. Not sure about other campuses/unis. to do teaching you have to do it through arts.

she transfered to Syd uni. lol She was on the phone complaining to me how much she hates it there cuz the building smell heaps bad apparently.

I could say how all of my friends who go to UWS do not like it much as there are so many morons and derros who go there... but I don't.

is it easier to do maths at high school than to do a bridging course when you get to uni? and does more preference go to those who have already done maths?

Well I don't think preferences go to those who have done maths because most likely you would do the bridging course prior to starting. As far as which is easier goes bridging courses cover the most important stuff and do so in a shorter period of time. Both would have their pros and cons I think. Neither would be too difficult with work and commitment though...so it's really which is more convenient.
