I go to a school in the 150s and my chem cohort has 10 people. One of my classmates hasn't studied anything and he told me he's getting like 50s in all the past papers. Hes ranked last so if he fucks up hsc would this affect me who is ranked 6/10 and the other kids in our cohort in terms of scaling? THanks

i think its best to worry about your own mark bc in the end, the aligned mark is a mix of the 6th highest mark in your case and your own. but generally i think scaling is moreso based on the entire cohort and i doubt one person would make a large difference. theres still a chance to offer them last min help to better your chances!!
