CFCs are Chlorofluorocarbons. In other words they are halo-alkanes in which all H atoms have been replaced by Cl and Fl. They were made to replace ammonia in fridges and stuff(I think cos the ammonia was poisonous, no?). CFCs destroy O3 as they form free radicals which "latch" onto O3 and destroy it via catalysis. However once its done with its "prey" it can continue onwards destroying more O3, which makes us vulnerable to medium intensity UV. And I'd write the eqn. for this but I forget
