It's sounding good, but i don't think it's the right thing for me, just for a couple of reasons:

* You live out at Strathfield... that is kinda too far for me, i live in the East :(... kinda a pity, i guess.

* You got 94 - while i'd be delighted with that mark myself, i'd say i'm sitting around the 85-90-ish mark, and i'm pretty confident i can improve on that easily for next year with a bit of work on my own part - i've put in less than 50% of what i can this year, so i've got a lot to give in terms of time for next yr. So i'm just wondering how much tution would help, as i'm coping pretty well at the moment.

I've got a question, though -- if i thought it would help, would you be willing to tutor me on an ad hoc basis? I generally cope with the Chemistry material pretty well, and tend not to have many problems, but i'm thinking that it might be beneficial to have you look over my own notes, to see that i've covered the key points, if you're not willing to give me your set of notes after attending only a few lessons.

Please let me know what you think of that :) You've haven't mentioned ad hoc tution, but i'm inclined to think that isn't really suited to me, especially considering the distance...

He kept on picking on me asking questions i dont even know what he's talking about... so eventually i got frustrated and jst stopped going there for chem.
Hmm, well, i mean, some tutors are better than others. Personally, when teachers pick on you, it can be both degrading if you don't know the answer - but also helpful if you're able to look beyond that and realise that you don't know the concept -- which will lead to understanidng it...

I should be confident, shouldn't i...
becoz.. well, if i'm not confident, then how can YOU have confidence in me??
I AM confident bcoz i've tutored several students for a while now, i've seen the results, got positive feedback from them, and they continue to come and even ask for more lessons!
no.. i dont trust people who are always in my face "i'll throw in some steak knives with that" or "but wait.. theres more!"... URRRGH.. damn annoying...

plus...if ur a med student.. wouldnt u always be busy studying and shit?

I understand, Iyamahobbit (nice name, btw) Strathfield can be a bit far away for some people.
Most of my students live nearish to Strathfield, so yeah... makes sense.

In reply to Kimmeh, yeah... i do med, and it is pretty busy. that is why i don't intend to take too many students - i only took 4 HSC students this year (regular ones that is), and have had to turn back some people. i don't intend to take any more than 4 next year.

On the other hand, I am willing to do ad hoc. That is perfectly fine - i'm just here to help you, however way i best can. We don't have to go through the entire course material or the worksheets, but rather, just deal with stuff that u mite like to gain a better understanding of, or in preparation for assessments, etc.
So yeah, Iyamahobbit, it's perfectly fine. Just call me whenever you'd like any help.
Although, just as a tip, i wouldn't suggest frantically rushing around looking for help just a few days b4 the exam! =P

Soz, Kimmeh, if i have been a bit in ur face. I din mean to be.
All i'm saying is that I'm here to offer a service, to a few students, and I am confident that i could be of help - and heck, i should be! (otherwise how could you have confidence in me??)

As I said, i only have space for 4 students... who are serious about it, and really want to do the best in chemistry.

Iyamahobbit, it's great that you are confident that you can improve your mark with more work. I really hope that you can. You're right, the person who's gonna make sure you get the mark you want is... yourself! Getting high marks doesn't just come from tuition, or good teachers, but ultimately, you're the one who has to put the work. So I am glad that you realise that.

I am available if you do want extra help or tips on the course material, resources or exam techniques.

$40?!?!? I pay $35 and l consider that to be expensive..l pay $70 a week in total. One on one is supposed to be more expensive, but l pay only $35 and l get one on one for no extra..

I'm not saying that this tuition is cheap.
Yes, others may be cheaper... at the same time, as I said b4, many of my friends (from James Ruse) charge a lot more.

Now I believe that with certain tutors, you do pay for what you get. If you get a good tutor, it may be worth the cost.

If you find cheaper tutors, and they're good, then that's great! by all means, go to them.

I am not going to judge them or you.
I'm just saying that this is what I charge, and I do make sure you get the full worth of it.

Hey,

I wrote a long reponse to this post about 2 days ago... then before i could send it, my bro asked for a couple of mins online, and he closed the window when he got off........ grzzzzzzzzzzzz... </rant>

Anyway, i can't be bothered to write up a response properly this time, but i do have a few questions to ask you, lawrence:

-- I'm planning on getting some work on chem done these holidays, so i'm thinking that it might be useful to have a class. Do you have time at all in the next fortnight? I'm free Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, though not all day. I can also do Tues-Thurs, but i'd rather not. So anyway... do you have time for a class?

-- Also, could i please have your phone number? I find it a bit hard to keep up with these forums, so if you could pm it to me/post it here, that'd be great.

-- Just a quick chem question: i'm just wondering what textbook you used, and what textbook you might reccommend. I've got a spot of shopping to do these hols, so i figured i might as well get some textbooks while i'm at it Any suggestions would be great

-- And also: do you think that, in general, 1 week would be sufficient notice for a class?

-- Lastly: just out of curiosity, what other subjects did you do? I'm assuming that you did similarly well in those, considering your UAI, so i'm just wondering if i could just get general tips for those subjects.

Anyway, there goes my badly-put-together response, but owell, blame my bro. Sorry for chucking so many questions at you

Rachel.

G'day
hey, soz i haven't been here for a while
been real busy lately... with the HSC coming up and all.
Soz, even tho it's too late now, i din have ne time n the hols, coz they were all for my current students.

I'm actually quite full atm, with my current students., esp. with the HSC. However, i will have free spaces after that is over.
I'm happy to start lessons ... say, from the last wk of Nov onwards.
So yeah, whilst I'm too busy atm... I'll be free from last wk of Nov onwards, practically any day, so we can possibly work soemthing out! ;)

My no. is 9746 3254
gimme a buzz netime.

The other subjects i did include 4U maths, Adv English, Physics and Biology.
I also tutor a bit of Biology, but have tended to specialise more on Chemistry.

well yeah, feel free to gimme a call to work something out! ;)

Oh soz, din answer all ur questions b4.
Textbooks.. ell, the one i got atm is Conq Chem. It's pretty good in having succinct info, and most of the info u need.
However, it is not entirely comprehensive - it is missing some bits, and has some bits u dun need (as does all text books).

Pathways is a pretty good one to have - good questions, and very comprehensive. It does tend to go over the top a bit tho, but that's alrite... some bits it is lacking, but that is rare.Oh, and it's not real cheap... =P

Excel is good for summary and overview - easy to understand, succinct. However, it is a bit too brief, so def not enuf.

These r some of the textbooks I used. Remember that no single textbook is enuf. Many came out b4 the syllabus was finalised and confirmed. But the ones I mentioned should b good enuf.
I suggest... getting Conq Chem / Pathways.. and borrowing the other ones from the library every now and then.

In terms of how early to give me notice about classes... well, yeah, pref at least 1 wk.
Oh, and to give u idea... i tend to teach on sat mornings... or wknights, except fri and sat.
We can arrange the best time later. Again, I'll only have spaces after Nov... so yeah, soz can't start till then.

Tho, if u hav ne questions regarding chem or nething, feel free to gimme a buzz or email.
btw, mob is 0403 802 278
