not helping here but this thread reminds me of how in year 8 or 9 science, we had to make a presentation on any element from the periodic table and I picked vanadium (didn’t even know this was an element till the assignment), and I only picked it bcz the chemical symbol was V and I was obsessed with taehyung from BTS at the time ☠ this memory and entire lore makes me die inside, it was the most stupid element to talk abt asw

i cant pick a favouite compound or element or ion ever bc i have too many that i like

but my two favs as of recently have to be phenolphthalein (C20H14O4) and permananate (MnO4-) bc i did a titration with apple juice using phenolphthalein indicator recently and my friend did one with potassium permanganate and iron and i loved the process (search up permanganate titration or phenolphthalein titration, they are so mesmerising to watch honestly)

while titrations in general are a little stressful and honestly sometimes chem lessons are dull, mod 5 and 6 (titrations especially) remind me why i picked chem in the first place. idk i like rediscovered my facination for chem without getting lost in the stress of marks and the hsc and what not

Ammonia is cool, because it can be used as a refrigerant gas in the Joule-Thomson Effect. As human civilisation weans itself off using CFCs and HCFCs that destroy the ozone layer, we will turn to using ammonia as a refrigerant gas. The enthalpy of vaporisation of ammonia and the pressure required to liquify ammonia make it ideal as a refrigerant gas. That is why ammonia is quite literally cool.
