A smooth circular disc of radius 0.25m rotates in a horizontal plane with angular velocity W=10rad/s about a vertical axis throgh the centre O. A particle of mass m is attached at P by light inelastic strings to points M and N on the ends of the diameter of the disc, such that MP=0.4m, NP=0.3m and both strings remain taut. Find the tension in the string NP, and the mass m if the tension in MP is 20N.

Answers: Tension in MP = 15 N

mass = 1 Kg.

I cannot get the right answers!

just sum the forces perpendicular/parallel to the particle's motion to mw^2 r/0.
use a right angled triangle in the horizontal plane, with shorter sides NP and MP

show your working so far if you still can't get it to see where you went wrong
