Yeah... is it that obvious??
But I still don't know what to do after school... sigh... bloody-lack-of-decision-making-skills!

Theres more to life than competition.
I agree. There is more to life than competition but for the purposes of the HSC, competition is productive...it encourages people to push themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of. I can certainly vouch for that statement. Sure you don't need to compete, but it definitely helps you to motivate yourself.

Life is all about crushing your rivals (rivals= the rest of the human-race). Sorry, I didn't used to be like this. The HSC has fucked me up.

lol...don't worry, the HSC's done that to a lot of people, myself included :p

There's no reason why you can't help people out, but essentially almost every facet of life revolves around competition: getting a place at uni, getting a job, finding a g/f or b/f, operating a business - it's a fact of life.

I've seen so many people upset over it but.
Competition can be a really bad thing...
That's true. I agree.
Competition creates pressure and pressure leads to all sorts of problems. It can be a bad thing, but by the same token it can be a good thing as well. If competition were non-existent, then society would remain stagnant - there would be no desire to make things better: no inventions, no technology...on the other hand competition creates war and hostility.

I know I'm looking at it on a much broader scale than the HSC, but essentially it's unavoidable.

Whoa...well done in Modern rusty_rouge :). What's more, I here that the Modern exam can be both random and difficult making 99 even more outstanding.

wow u got 2nd dux with 63 in modern?
Do u reckon joe could be in for dux? this is what he got:
English trial-84% rank 4/the grade
2unit maths-60% Rank 26/58
Legal-90% Rank 1/36
Business 85% Rank 1/69
IPT- 64% [pretty crap but it was a hard exam apparently] rank 1/13
SOR1-78% 38/50 rank 7/149

I reckon that maths and IPT result is gonna prevent him from getting it though
