What are some of the old black and white classic movies you have watched? Any personal favourites? I recently watched A Streetcar Named Desire with Marlon Brando and Hitchcock's Birds.....anyone recommend any others?

oh well.....
heard they spent 7 days filming the "shower" scene
and watched that part too

i watched Psycho the other day too
interestingly enough (or not), it was actually a conscious decision for Psycho to be filmed in black and white, not colour, because apparantly, it would have been "too gory" in colour

just to rescue this thread from retardedness...

a few excellent b&w classic hollywood films of the top of my head:

any billy wilder (some like it hot, double indemnity, sunset boulevard, the apartment)
in a lonely place
it's a wondeful life
to have and have not
white heat
the lady eve
the sweet smell of success
out of the past
stage door

not really into classic hollywood films for the nostalgic aspects; though those above films have plenty to offer in that regard and simply as great works of cinema.

It's colour.

I quite like the best of classic Hollywood - obviously anything from Hitchcock or Wilder is likely to be brilliant, but there's so much greatness out there to be had. My favourites would include:

The Big Sleep
The Searchers
City Lights (or any other Chaplin film, really)
Doctor Zhivago
Ben-Hur
Arsenic and Old Lace
The African Queen
The Red Shoes

That'll do. I have a soft spot for epics and screwball comedy, God help me.

Lol. I love the beginning sequence of that movie so much *hummms*

Fav scene when I first watched it was when Jem and Dill stuffed her in the tyre and rolled her down the street :D

I don't watch many classics but I love TKAM :D (Whoever said Hitchcock's "Birds...my God, that was a freaky movie :( )
