Since my career advisor been hell alot busy with students. I wanted a advice to find what uni has weather type courses in Qld?

PS: I got told that USQ has cancelled climatology!:burn:

Please help me before i apply during this week.

Well at least i find that James Cook Uni has Meteorology up there so what else?

Grrr now i felt stupid because there are less options in Qld and Nsw than Victoria! Argghhhhh wonder why i can't go down south with terrible stubborn weather doing the uni for 3 years (plus 8 months with BoM course)???

I prefer study weather in warmer conditions otherwise the blood ain't rush to my brain hence not a good mind! Do i have to shiver all the time if i study down in Victoria??

My preferences for weather courses so far:

2. ????
3. ????
4. ????

Yea, not many 'climatology'/'meteorlogical' degrees out there. Your best bet, as i see uve done, is to choose a physics and/or maths course. Take electives in mathematical modelling, environmental physics, possibly atmospheric chemistry etc etc also a few geological subjects and a unit in oceanography. Pretty much any kind of applied maths course should suffice. As you pointed out, you then should pursue a course with BOM or go on to further studies ie Masters/Phd in a specialised area etc etc

Thats basically how you become a meteorologist. An interesting field, but other then working with the weather bureau most other opportunities exist in research/teaching/academica.

Physics and Maths is taking a Meteorology course for JCU. Should be a same for others uni's?

You could always do a civil eng degree and specialise in hydrology, that'd be more about practical applications of atmospheric science. You would probably have to put up with 3/4 of your courses being structural and geotech though...

Look in to oceanography as well, some maths schools offer it as a major.

* Bachelor and Honours degrees in Forestry, Resource & Environmental Management, and Sustainability;
* Geography and Human Ecology programs as part of Bachelor or Honours degrees in Arts or Science;

I applied QTAC today. It's sucessfully applied. So i placed JCU first with special consideration. I found the CQU has similar course and i going to place that last as 6th preference. Anyways wish me luck for JCU!

Did you pass year 12? Congratz, you got accepted into JCU. Don't be stupid and change your preferences, JCU is a hole and so is Townsville.

Edit: I can't leave it at that. The reason JCU exists is because it has a catchment area of NQ and NT, there's no competition for it. People go there because they either couldn't do well enough to go elsewhere, they didn't have the money to go elsewhere, or they assume it won't be that bad, hahaha, yeah right. NO ONE I know likes JCU, they just got stuck with it. Some of us were fortunate to escape, although I feel sorry for those who weren't. I mean, the med degree at JCU has a cut off of an OP 5 (that's a UAI of 92 for all the kiddies playing at home), AND it doesn't require you to sit the UMAT. Even if you do, they don't look at what you got. What the HELL is that??!! Like seriously, I know people who got 99.96 and 99.94 (or something like that) and JCU didn't give them an interview for Med. There are people doing law at JCU who got the equivalent of a 75. But at least you won't be "just another number"

JCU is good for marine biology, the end.

I'm going to go and beat my head against a wall for a while, this thread is too much for me.

The Meteorology course up there is main one in Australia. Thats why i choose that. UAI is only 66 to get in.
