For those of you are completing or have completed a co-op program, what was the workload like? Having looked through the co-op prospectus, I've realised the need to complete evening classes in addition to IT + IT throughout the summer break. I've also heard from past students that co-op scholars are at times required to learn course content in a few weeks that would otherwise have been learned over an entire semester, though I'm unsure as to the truth of this statement.

I think mr_shittles would be the most suitable to answer this.
PM him if he doesn't see the thread

I'm in second year second semester now and I did one subject last semester (Managment Accounting) and that's it! For accounting, there is no stage of our course where we need to learn a semester's content in a few weeks. In fact, it's very much less stressful than a cadetship, however there is a minumum credit average required and credit and above for all accounting subjects.

In actuary, if you decide to go on exchange for a semester, there may be a subject in which the type of scenario you described may emerge, but I'm not too sure how it works. Maybe an Actuarial Co-op on the forum might know.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of extra-curricular activities did you do while you were at school? I've heard that many successful applicants do a great deal of eca at school...not just a bit of sport and a few other things, but actually a very wide range of activites - is this always the case?

I did cricket, cross country and soccer for my sports, did charity work outside school, peer mediation leader, National Winner for the Economics Comp and that was about it.

Hmm...I did cricket between 1998 and 2001 but I opted against putting that in. I don't know how this sounds, but in recent years I've played tennis - I was captain for a couple of terms in 2004. I was awarded a College Blue award for tennis for showing effort and leadership. I was a part of a school charity initiative in 2004, I did the Chemistry Titration Comp in May 2005 (I just found out it was actually in June, but hopefully the guys at UNSW won't notice this) and I've been a Canteen Supervisor throughout '05.

Did you find that they asked you about your written application during your interview?

lol...don't knock Canteen Supervising - it's a pain in the ass with those Yr 9s and 10s: last day of doing it tomorrow :p
I had to make up a little bit, but most of it was genuine which surprised me to say the least. What program/s are you going for in the co-op?

So you're a prospective engineer then? I saw your brother at the UNSW Actuarial lecture, so I'm guessing he's going for 1. Actuarial and probably 2. Finance? ... actually, come to think of it I don't know if you're Adolfo or Alonso, so maybe it was you at the Actuarial lecture  :p
