The reason is (I think) that in first year you have to do the core subjects for eng and from 2nd year you start doing the comm components.

Yes electrical is interesting, but I find no connection between haskell (in computing) with electrical.

there are no pros or cons
it depends on what you want to major in....

like if you want electrical engin, you have to do B Eng
if you want chemistry, you have to do B Sci

there are some chem eng courses though.. like industrial chem or chem eng... although chem eng isnt chem.. or so heard.

i don't know any specific science courses which are sciency, there's psycology....
