Hey there,

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if we are meant to enrol in all 6 of the matches for Accounting?

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR class="data rowLowlight"><TD class=data>ACCT1501</TD><TD class=data>Accounting and Financial Management 1A </TD><TD class=data>Kensington Campus</TD><TD class=data>Session One</TD><TD class=data align=right><INPUT type=checkbox CHECKED value=true name=id-000001S11> </TD></TR><TR class="data rowHighlight"><TD class=data>ACCT1511</TD><TD class=data>Accounting and Financial Management 1B </TD><TD class=data>Kensington Campus</TD><TD class=data>Session One</TD><TD class=data align=right><INPUT type=checkbox value=true name=id-000002S11> </TD></TR><TR class="data rowLowlight"><TD class=data>ECON1101</TD><TD class=data>Microeconomics 1 </TD><TD class=data>Kensington Campus</TD><TD class=data>Session One</TD><TD class=data align=right><INPUT type=checkbox CHECKED value=true name=id-006300S11> </TD></TR><TR class="data rowHighlight"><TD class=data>ECON1102</TD><TD class=data>Macroeconomics 1 </TD><TD class=data>Kensington Campus</TD><TD class=data>Session One</TD><TD class=data align=right><INPUT type=checkbox value=true name=id-006301S11> </TD></TR><TR class="data rowLowlight"><TD class=data>ECON1202</TD><TD class=data>Quantitative Methods A </TD><TD class=data>Kensington Campus</TD><TD class=data>Session One</TD><TD class=data align=right><INPUT type=checkbox CHECKED value=true name=id-006306S11> </TD></TR><TR class="data rowHighlight"><TD class=data>ECON1203</TD><TD class=data>Quantitative Methods B </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
When i try to do so, it says I'm not elegible for some of them- I'm guessing because they are "Part 2" of something? Can anyone provide some clarification on this?.. I'm confused because that would mean I only hae 3 things I'm signing up for (1501, 1101 and 1202)... is that it?

Do I need to pick anything else?
what u got checked are the cores for session 1.
the other 3 are cores for session 2.

if you're doing full time, then you're allowed maxium of 24 units of credits.

you have enrolled in 18 units leaving u with 6 units left for an elective.. be it finance or an accounting one. (by accounting, i mean one that will lead to ca recognition ;) like legt1711 )

otherwise u can always do fins1612 with me :D (for acct/fins major)

Thank you!

OMG I'm officially sick of using the UNSW website. Not their fault, but rather I just kept changing what I wanted >_>

I'll save the "Getting my own email addy" for later... Now I just gotta figure out when I have to pay them the money (ie. student fees) and if I need to do anything if I'm using HECs...

Now I'm starting to miss school's "we plan for you" timetable.

Haha you can tell I'm stressing a bit now?

Ok I've elected to do Fins1612 because I'm interested in FInance, but my question is, CA requires;

LEGT1711, 2721, 2741 and 2751
(source: http://www.icaa.org.au/upload/download/2005_ATC_List.pdf)

Can I do these later on?
If you're doing accounting you should do LEGT1711, and do FINS1613 in the second session. You don't need FINS1612 if you minor in finance or double major.

You serious? Does it matter which order I do them in?

I thought Fins1613 requires Fins1612 as well.

Btw may I ask why you suggest that- I don't really mind the order (as long as Legt is offered in session2, 2nd year) and at the moment i'm in a very "I cbf to go back to unsw site and change"... but if there's good reason, then I'll just swap all the fin stuff with legt again.

Are you planning to major in Finance? If so, choose FINS1612 and FINS1613 as your S1 and S2 electives. If not, do LEGT1711 and FINS1613 (in any order, as they are offered in both sessions)

Do FINS1613 this semester though, and I'll see you in lectures :)

Doesn't Fins1613 need FIns1612 from memory?

I think I'll do my Fins now, because I want to comajor in Finance. Biz Law doesn't really interest me as much as Finance does. I just don't want to choose things wrongly and be forced to stay an extra session at uni just to finish my pre-reqs for CA; my sister warned me that some of her cadet peers had that problem when they comajored in Finance.

fins1613 needs either "fins1612" or the "any 2 of blablabla" as coreqs

u can do fins1612 in s1 and fins1613 in s2 then do legt in yr2

in a few weeks after u start uni (so u dont go in the long queue) u can go to John Goodsell building and ask for the little comm undergraduate handbook.. it tells u wad courses u can do and their pre/coreqs, also whether its offered in s1 or s2
the info is on the online handbook too but its easier to view it on a physical book.. it lists the courses and pre/coreqs and s1/s2 on the same page

FINS1613 doesn't require 1612. If you want CA accreditation and also double major, it's better to skip 1612 as you may not have enough credit points to play with. And it's recommended by the school of finance that you skip 1612 if you are double majoring, you can check with them if you want. But I think you will need 1612 if you want a "finance" major, it's just that you do it at the end since it's not important as the legal subjects and 1613. When I say it's not important, I mean that you don't need 1612 as prerequisite for most of the mainstream finance subjects, while 1613 is a prerequisite to second year finance. And you need the legal subjects to get CA accreditation.

Thanks for that- I got a reply from the uni and they suggested the same thing.

The reason I ask is the website prompts me with this error when i try to enrol in Fins1613;
Error:Requirements not met for class, student not enrolled

Any ideas?

(EDIT)
I think it's do with the Fins1613 pre-req of fins1612 or co-req of 2 of the following; acct1511, econ1102, econ1203. Since I'm doing all three of those later on, I think I will do LEGT now as to minimise time-wasting.

Ok, I have a bit of a problem here. I'm also doing Commerce@UNSW and I plan on double majoring in accounting/finance and also getting CA accreditation. So, I originally had LEGT1711 as my 4th subject for first semester.

However, since I also want to have a shot at transferring into Bcom/LLB at the end of first year, that changes the 'required subject' for CA accreditation (I'm guessing because LEGT1711's content can be covered inside the Law degree). So, for this reason, I thought to save time I'd put FINS1612 for first sem and FINS1613 for second sem, in case I actually do manage to transfer into Commerce/LLB. So my plan was to just do LEGT1711 in second year(if i dont make commerce/law) to avoid 'potentially wasting time' in case I am able to transfer.

Now, I just read (and realised) that FINS1612 isn't completely necessary either, so which do you think it's better for me to do as my 4th subject for sem1 and sem2?

Am I still better off doing FINS1612 and 1613 for the 'chance that I make the transfer'?

Edit: I had another think about it, and I think it still makes more sense for me to do FINS1612 and FINS1613, rather than LEGT1711 and FINS1613, because I have to do FINS1612 eventually for finance to count as a major. (it's on the list of required courses)

Just done a bit more thinking... Is it even possible to fit in CA accreditation requirements with a double major degree?? Because in a double major degree you do 7 courses for each major, 2 option topics and 2 courses as part of 'General education'. In a single major its 8 and 4 for your majors, FOUR option topics and 2 General education courses.

CA requirements:
ACCT1501 Accounting & Financial Management 1A
ACCT1511 Accounting & Financial Management 1B
ACCT2542 Corporate Financial Reporting and Analysis
ACCT3563 Issues in Financial Reporting and Analysis OR ACCT3573 (Honours)
ACCT2522 Management Accounting: Process Improvement and Innovation
ACCT3583 Stakeholder Value Management OR ACCT3593 (Honours)
ACCT3708 Auditing and Assurance OR ACCT3718 (Hons)
FINS1613 Business Finance
LEGT1711 Legal Environment of Commerce
LEGT2721 Business Transactions
LEGT2741 Business Entities
LEGT2751 Business Taxation

Now, all the topics except for the last four can 'fit' inside a major. If you do a single major, you could just do those last 4 as 'option topics' but if you do a double major, you wouldn't be able to fit 4 into 2.

Can it only be done through 'non-award study' or maybe inside the honours year?

Professional recognition

ok if anyone is willing to help me..

ive enrolled in fins1612. i plan to get ca accreditation and double major [fins + acct] so as previous advice, leave fins1612 to the end if its needed (and do fins1613 2nd year).

now accreditation requires both legt 1711 and infs1602... infs1602 fits my timetable much better for first sem than legt1711.. as far as i noe these two arent related in being pre/co requisites??

so should i do infs1602 first sem or legt first sem [just an extra day a week at uni =( ].. does the order of these two really matter?

sorry that might not be worded properly..
