Commerce: UNSW or Sydney? (1 Viewer)

After all these time, I still havent decided which uni I should go to. At first I didn't think I'd be able to get into Commerce in UNSW. But now I think I have a big chance.

The thing is... UNSW has higher uai needed for Commerce. While Sydney Uni is nearer to where I live.

Anyone know which uni is more expertised in Commerce or any business course?

clearly the best uni is whatever suits you ---> let everyone think their uni is the best means squat for most people

Come to Sydney cos it's for special people.

And blackfriday is wrong. Melbourne is alrite it's quite classy compared to sydney.

Why would you go to a less prestigious uni that's further away from where you live?

UNSW - it now has a Faculty of Business, where it knowledge-shares with AGSM (FCE and AGSM merged this year).

I went to UNSW, highly recommend it

I went to Macq and I'm now at UNSW.

I found macq although is easy to get into, it's hard to get out of. The standard is higher at Macq than at UNSW.

In saying that, I have enjoyed my time more at UNSW cos I enjoy the people more.

The facilities at both UNSW and Macq are about the same now since Macq's got a new Commerce building and I think they're building a swimming pool or have built it already. As for the train station at Macq, I haven't heard any news from my Macq buddies :S

I've heard from some friends that Usyd isn't as focused on internships, jobs etc or maybe the students aren't. I could be wrong. But the students at both Macq and UNSW are very competitive (UNSW more so) and are quite determined to become high achievers.

Conclusion:
If you want to study and graduate quickly, got to Macq.

If you want to enjoy uni a bit (i think i enjoy it too much), go to UNSW.

There are alot of asians in the BCom course at UNSW. So if you're not used to / don't like it, then I suggest USYD (although they have quite abit too, but no where near as much).

I think the business courses from both universities are very close. Being bias, I would say UNSW is slightly ahead of USYD, and that was my reason for choosing UNSW over USYD.

But the difference is probably smaller than you think, so I would suggest you consider other factors in making your decision too - such as transport (as you noted), being able to make your own timetable (only at UNSW ), what majors/electives are available, etc.

Um, if you really want to enjoy uni, go to USYD, it has the best campus life and atmosphere, by far.

Can you elaborate why the campus life and atmosphere at USYD is noticeably better?

Well, I suppose if you're white, and I'm assuming you are, the social network would be better at USYD, and the social events would be more diverse.

Since I'm asian, I have no problems socialising/engaging in the majority-asian social events. Although I do sometimes get pissed with the international students, especially if I'm unfortunate enough to land one in one of my group assignments. But then again, the % population of internationals at USYD is similar to that of UNSW.

Surely there is more to this than a white/asian divide? The cutoff for usyd last year was 93.4 compared to 93 for unsw. Yeah this is a negligible difference but it does represent some kind of advantage in terms of demand for this uni.

The whole asian/white thing doesn't come into it at all for me, and im white, but our school is like 60% asian and there no issues there at all. So .. the majors available are essentially the same, at unsw you can make your own timetable but other than that what are some of the differences?

Im talking like job prospects after finishing the course, is one more respected in terms of their commerce faculty than the other? Are there any other factors that come into it?

Yes there's more to the asian/white divide but it's not the negligible difference in the uai cut-off. For example in UNSW people are more religious and more populist - the asian-christianity community is prevalent, whereas USyd is more secular and the populist mentality isn't as strong. Also, UNSW people tend to be slightly more one-dimensional. So if you prefer to stick to a certain clique, go to UNSW. If you're an asian christian - go to UNSW, you will like the "community spirit". If not, go to USyd.
