First question in short answers of the 2005 exam asks to define a communication protocol and provide an example. I know what handshaking protocols and network protocols are, is a communication protocol just the same? and is an example of one like XOn/XOff, POP or MIME?

communication protocol is teh rules that governs the transfer of data between computers. An example would be HTTP , FTP, TCP/IP, POP, MIME, etc.

Xon/Xoff = handshacking protocol

LOL i remember doing that question and writing both the technical definition, a more practical definition (ie. easier to understand), and examples of protocols.
