The lecturer was so good, that in the last lecture we decided to give him a present which includes:
-> An opera ticket (costed a lot)
-> Brownie cookies (i think it was brownie)
-> A big work of art with signatures (Yes, it's art )

Now that should say something about the course . And yes, not doing 1711 would be something you'll regret for a long time

Employers wouldn't know the difference!

In future years of uni having done higher courses does help - you would have a much better background knowledge than normal students.

Yes...but I personally wouldn't liken Higher Maths with Higher Computing. Higher Maths would require you to be talented at maths to do well in.

interesting thread - after reading this and the COMP1711 site I swaped from COMP1011 to COMP1711

though when doingHSC brought up the subject of Higher Maths - a question came to me. Does it matter if you do Higher Computing with Mathematics? (eg. COMP1711 and MATH1131) Because I've heard that computing/programming subjects require quite a bit of maths...or is the maths learnt in Higher Mathematics too deep to be useful for programming??

In 1711 it doesn't really matter. I did 1711 with 1131 and 1721 with 1231.

Of course, with the 1711 lecturer being a cryptograpy fan, you'll get to learn some modular arithmetic and prime number tests, but the concepts would be explained in the lecture or the tutes. Other than that, there is not much math involved in anything else, save for the harder brownie point questions, which are optional.

1721 is relatively maths-free.

well it says comp sci/sci nearly every where eg.

and science/computer sci here (attachment) when i was enrolling. Now im hoping that i didnt select wrong course at the beggining cos i just clicked sci/comp sci widout reading other courses and just realised sci is at the front.
