What is the difference?!!?!?!?!!?!?
I have a friend who's doing comp sci doing COMP1511 this sem. I'm doing commerce/adv math and was thinking of enrolling into COMP1911 or 1917(probably 1917), I didn't even know 1511 was a thing.

they don't offer COMP1917 anymore, they replaced it with COMP1511

COMP1911 is a lower level version than COMP1511 (aka COMP1917), it's lesser paced than COMP1511 (advanced version required for Computer science students).

1511 is a replacement for 1917. The school of CSE has just recently redesigned the course.
If you have prior experience with programming I would suggest taking 1511, 1911's content is half the content in 1511.
Maybe try 1911 and transfer to 1511 if you find 1911 too easy.

I know this thread has been long dormant but I want to ask something.

In Year 11, I did Software Design & Development and I HATED IT! I also came like 18th/20 people, partially due to my loss of interest. Should I do still consider 1911 or 1511, or just do even Computing for Engineers (ENGG1811)?

I am in Adv. Math and Engineering btw. I am juggling between Mech or Elec (No, I am NOT doing Mechatronic) but if I pick ENGG1811, I would be locked into Mechanical. I will need a computing course either way, even if I drop one of my degrees.
HSC SDD has very little in common with the introductory programming courses. The latter focuses solely on being able to code properly. There's nothing about ethics, dev approaches or that sort of stuff.

1911 is a cut down version of 1511. 1811 is significantly different to both of those.

If you don't want to be locked into Mechanical, pick 1911.

If you think you might be taking more COMP courses in the future, pick 1511 (needed as a prereq).
IIRC Elec has quite a few COMP electives, and you'll be cutting yourself off from all of them by picking 1911.
