i have a very quick question. currantly we are doing complex numbers and now we a r on graphing atm. no i'm clear with most of the stuf but 1 thing that i dont understand is ellipses. i don't know when they have to be egg shaped and when oval shaped, so if some 1 can explain all of this to me, i would appreciate it
thank you

I'm not up to conics yet but I know that the a value affects how much horizontally stretched the ellipse is and the b value affects how much vertically the ellipse is stretched.

take the eqn of the ellipse to be x^2/a^2 + y^2/b^2 = 1

when b/a >1 it is an egg ie vertical ellipse, the pty bits are on the y axis

when b/a <1 it is an oval ie horizontal ellispe, the pty bits are on the x axis

hope it helps
